redaffinity Posted December 18, 2008 CID Share Posted December 18, 2008 I have optimum online. First I thought it was my firewall or spyware program, so i turned them off. Yet I still lag in whatever online game I play. I tried calling customer support to check on my connect..they tell me they aren't having any problems on their end. I tried removing the router. Still no luck. None of this happened before until that last few days that I started getting lag spikes. In warcraft 3 I would get dropped with in minutes of joining a game. In counterstrike, my guy freezes for like 10 seconds and before i know it im dead. It's frustrating and I am out of ideas. I don't know what to do. I hope someone can help me out here. thanks
coknuck Posted December 18, 2008 CID Share Posted December 18, 2008 Have you run a tracert to see if there are any bottlenecks on your route to the game server?

coknuck Posted December 18, 2008 CID Share Posted December 18, 2008 Considering the Request timed outs on 4 & 8 and the long time on 5. I would say that's your lag right there between all three of them.
redaffinity Posted December 19, 2008 Author CID Share Posted December 19, 2008 how do I fix this?
coknuck Posted December 19, 2008 CID Share Posted December 19, 2008 You don't! You got to complain to your ISP. Be nice and tell them your paying for a service and they will say its not their problem because their using a Backbone Service. Then you tell them you don't care about the crappy service their willing to except and you are paying them not the Backbone Service so give you a credit for the month because of their crappy service. Call every month until it gets better or more often if want to piss them off!
redaffinity Posted December 19, 2008 Author CID Share Posted December 19, 2008 Tried that and it didnt work lol..they tell me its not their problem and that it is of the game server's. I can't play any online games for the last 3 days. And i suppose every online game that i play with totally different servers all started to lag like crazy at the same time. What I don't get is that I have over the maximum D/L and U/L speeds when i ran tests..yet I lag like crazy in games. Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6001] Copyright © 2006 Microsoft Corporation. Ryan314 Posted December 19, 2008 CID Share Posted December 19, 2008 I'm not sure if it would help this specific problem but putting your router ( if you have one) in a DMZ ( de-militarized zone) will allow ALL incoming connections. if this solves your problem you know the lag is due to ports in the game your playing not being forwarded and you can forward them manually. portforward.com will show you step by step how to forward ports.. just choose your router and the program or game you wish to forwArd and boom. it's worth a try if nothing else has worked for you. oh and to put your router in a dmz or forward ports you need to access your routers config page which is usually done by typing 192.168.1.1 into mozilla or Internet explorer. I'll be here if you need any help.
