Dear testmy.net can you help? :)

Wassup testmy.net ^_^

I was wondering if anyone can help me a little bit cause im getting a bit sad about this now as i am a student and don't (can't afford) a tv so i like to watch online (bbc iplyaer etc.) but my internet is lacking somewhat :/.

I am with Virgin Media, the package advertised and my network and sharing centre page both say 54 Mbps AND i have have done all the steps here http://www.testmy.net/t-18907 and a number of things here http://www.testmy.net/t-2097 (internet explorer connections bit, using norton and nothing else, have a windows updates, have run CCleaner (was a step in the first link)).

USB to modem cause there is dividing wall (non load bearing so its thin) and rebooted the computer numerous times today and got the modem less than 30 days ago and his has been rebooted once since installation :] also dunno if this is helpful/useful at all but network and sharing centre says my signal is excellent

Have you tried looking for a newer version of the USB drivers for the modem?

Maybe you have the name of the modem?

And what is your subscribed speed package? 10Mbps. 20 Mbps. 50 Mbps.

Since 54Mbps should just be a number that your computer connects to the modem at. You will see it if you hover over the little computers icon in the bottom right of your browser.

the modem just says virgin media on the front of it and thats all i think 54(56?) was teh subscribed speed.

I think i got confused earlier :P the modem and the computer are connected via a wireless router (netgear) and an aerial in teh back of the computer.

i havent looked for any drivers not sure where to look or what to look for tbh.maybe this will help?

Possibly the 'new' modem has a 'used' power supply cable(with transformer in the plug) and that needs to be replaced.  The transformer gets weak, the warmer it gets and yada yada....

To see if the power supply on the modem is the cause, Unplug the power plug for about half an hour and then plug it back in again. Then do a speed test right away. See if any difference.

You wouldn't happen to have extra toolbars under that screen capture? Norton , etc. Maybe disable them to see if any difference.
