Relevance For Australians. Current Speed Index?

Hi,

Will these speed tests give me an accurate result if I'm doing them from Sydney? (Australia)

I love the clarity and information on the site but I'm not sure that the test results are relevant when my location is factored in. Other tests I've done give me a significantly different result, 2.5x faster on the download and 1.5x on the upload so I'm unsure which results to go with.

Also what do the upload and download numbers in the "Current Speed Index" box mean? They are much higher than my results so I'm unsure how, or if they relate to my numbers.

Well, it will give you an accurate result if most of the sites you visit are in the United States. The United States being the center of much of the internet activity I would say that it's still a good benchmark for the rest of the world. But with that many hops between you and the server you can't really be mad at your ISP if you can't pull your full speeds. But you can still compare to "Net.au" (other Aussies).

The Speed Index is something I really haven't explained yet, it's a rolling average of the tests taken world-wide over the last 30 minutes (updated every 5 minutes). I haven't really explained this yet because it's still an evolving concept.

I know, I need to get servers in Australia... and many more places. If you know of anyone willing to donate a server down under let me know.
