ninjageek Posted December 16, 2010 CID Share Posted December 16, 2010 Giving thought to updating my computer a bit. Thinking of jumping my Amd Phenoom 2 5500 Processor Up to a quad core. I have a M4A78-EM Ausus motherboard. Will Probally Jump the 4 Gig up to a 8 gig. So 2 questions. Can I jump this motherboard up to a quad core? I THINK?? I can but unsure. Can someone offer a NewEgg LInk to some 2 gig Sticks of ram that is decent and decent in price. I will need 4 of them. Right now Im using 4 sticks of 1 gig ram. It has to be dual channel. Probably make the jump in a month or two. If I can Jump up the processor, And stick more ram in the box I think I can hold off building a new computer for another year or two. Thanks all. Is this your board: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131384 ? If so it should DEFINITELY do Quad Core. It supports AM2/AM2+/AM3, I would say you are good. DDRII Dual Channel RAM (Free Shipping): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820159021 Thanks, EBrown
anox195 Posted January 5, 2011 CID Share Posted January 5, 2011 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820159021 Would work fine for the ram, however I would use a 64bit OS with that much ram and your MOBO supports up to 16gb. Wouldn't be a bad idea to go higher than 8 IMO. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103472 This would make that thing scream. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231207 As for the ram, if you wanted to pay a single USD dollar more this is rated the same but has more reviews and a higher rating. (Also has free shipping)
TriRan Posted January 6, 2011 CID Share Posted January 6, 2011 TBH DDR2 is a dying way however Phenom II's have a DDR2 and DDR3 memory controller built in so it should work fine heres asus's product sheet http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=0KyowHKUFAQqH2DO luckily it supports 125w MAX so you can jump to a phenom II quad providing you have a good enough power supply
