netjunkie78 Posted January 11, 2019 CID Share Posted January 11, 2019 I'm a new hughesnet customer got installed about two weeks ago only because a friend told me that hughesnet is the way to go. Because I live out in the middle of nowhere I really had no choice so I gave it a try. Tonight while trying to stream netflix i noticed a constant buffering in my movies. Every minute my movie would buffer. Finally I had enough and called up hughesnet and told them about my slow speeds. The agent was very nice and had me log in to my account and perform some speed tests. He informed me they were very low. I was getting about 2mbps download and 2mbps upload. Then he had me plug my laptop into the hughesmodem with ethernet cable and my speeds shot up to 45 mbps download and 3 mbps upload. He told me someone would give me a call in about three days. I dont know why my wifi would be so slow. I literally only have my laptop connected to my hughesmodem and the speed are so slow i have to use my cell phone provider to get any kind of decenter internet access out here. What would cause my wifi speeds to be so slow??
Pgoodwin1 Posted January 11, 2019 CID Share Posted January 11, 2019 When you’re watching movies wirelessly, and it’s buffering, are you on your laptop, or a smart TV, or a Roku - what kind of device are you watching on? What type of wireless ESS device are you using: is there a wireless router and a separate modem, or an all-in-one modem/router? How far is it from your laptop to the wireless modem-router? Are there a lot of walls between your viewing device and the wireless point?
parsons.ca Posted March 27, 2022 CID Share Posted March 27, 2022 I too am experiencing some similar issues. I have had same hughesnet provider since 2016. Crazy though I upgraded to a wifi 6 tri band router and had hughesnet upgrade service to gen 5 & install h2000w & it drops every few minutes also. I have the yellow Ethernet cable hooked to back of our 4k 60 inch smart tv. Prior to this I had our service upgraded to gen 5 they sent me the so called faster modem but I had a dual band Bellini router I was having issues with locking me out of homepage I never could update firewalls or access the appropriate panel reads Belkin cs was terrible so I did not want to install new Hughes modem using that router. We had cut the cord with cable at this time & started trying streaming services purchasing Netflix Hulu amazon prime ect its really strange how it now is so slow with everything upgraded. Idk I’m no Internet tech & we also live way out in mid of no where. Like hughesnet is basically only option. Would like to know how they resolved this ? Or if someone else is willing to help. We would greatly appreciate any input! thanks! amanda
sandy.hanks Posted April 25, 2022 CID Share Posted April 25, 2022 I have the same issues! I can shutdown and unplug all other devices and change cell phones and tablets to turn off wifi. I have 1 fire Tv within 10 feet of the modem and have constant buffering and the ‘internet’ disconnects. Help!
sandy.hanks Posted April 25, 2022 CID Share Posted April 25, 2022 Do I need to purchase a few 50 foot Ethernet cables? I had an older Google wifi system and learned I needed a new Ethernet cable. Thinking the system was too old I recently purchased an eero 6 dual band mesh wifi system. Still no improvement
