billmadison Posted May 16, 2021 CID Share Posted May 16, 2021 Hi - I'm Bill I have been live streaming music for quite sometime now and low bandwidth has always been a thorn in my saddle. Now that I have found you guys, maybe I can get some answers - thank you all so much! My average upload speed is 1.9 MBPS - What should I set my bitrate to in OBS? I have it at 1000 now Thanks Bill Madison
Sean Posted May 17, 2021 CID Share Posted May 17, 2021 If your upload speed is very stable, such as a DSL connection, you should be able to go close to your upload speed limit without any issue. For example, 1.5Mbps should be fine, possibly 1.6Mbps. If it's a wireless or cellular based ISP, you may need to drop further back than this. I suggest doing a trial run with a continuous ping in the background, such as to Google's DNS 8.8.8.8. If there is barely any increase in the ping times compared to 1000Kbps, then that bitrate is fine. If however, you see the pings regularly spiking up such as over 100ms, then try dropping back the bitrate by 0.1Mbps. billmadison Posted May 31, 2021 Author CID Share Posted May 31, 2021 OK - so my upload speed is 2MPBS and I used the Auto Configuration on OBS and ran a stream which faded after 30 minutes. Does anyone at all know of a way to increase my upload speed? Thanks Bill
