kenpo Posted April 14, 2005 CID Share Posted April 14, 2005 Comcast Gold Tier coustumers, Everyone with gold tier do not test your speed with java speed test. The reason I say this is because java speed test are NO ACCURATE with over 4Mbps speed tier, I have gold tier and when I run a speed test with java my speed is all over the place. The best place to run and see you real speed is with www.testmy.net With www.dslreports.com speed test my speed go from 3Mbps to 5Mbps never I have a solid result. I think 80% of the gold tier speed problems are java speed test. Now with www.testmy.net my result are between 6.2Mbps and 6.4Mbps www.testmy.net speed test Result :::.. KingCobra Posted April 14, 2005 CID Share Posted April 14, 2005 He's right.. Testmy has been running insanely slowly lately. I just pulled 3 mb on the 14somethng test.... thats... like 1 meg on the 5 meg test. Upon what basis are you all making such statements? xs1 Posted April 14, 2005 CID Share Posted April 14, 2005 So if we agree that my tests are accurate due to a close to perfect connection from the outside, wouldn't that point squarely to other links in the chain between you and the servers Your right, it could be other things along the route.. but thats not the point. Their have been more and more users ( uneededly i might add) making threads about why its running so slowly. CA3LE is currently setting up the other server to fix this problem, but my comment about TM getting slow was based on 3 tests ran back to back , ( a lil earlier then my post) 3 x in a row. testmy showed me as using a " 1 mb connection" the second and 3rd time they didnt even finish. At the same time dslreports in houston, dallas and atlanta, were saying i was on a 5.8. ( which is about right. especialy during off hours)
VanBuren Posted April 14, 2005 CID Share Posted April 14, 2005 Java or not has nothing to do how accurate the test is what does matter is 1. Server TCP settings ( a speedtest between eastcoast to westcoast or a oversea speedtest, demands that the server is tweaked to get accurate scores above around 4 Mbps ) 2. Server Bandwidth and routing ( the server need enough bandwidth so it can take all peak traffic, and need a good route to as many ISP

KingCobra Posted April 14, 2005 CID Share Posted April 14, 2005 i dont belive thats a java issue, its a matter of too small testfiles and not optimized server TCP settings VanBuren Precisely what I said. I didn't say java, I said java app. It's the application that is hosed. Another reason I don't use them anymore except an occasional test to see if they fixed the damn thing. netmasta Posted April 14, 2005 CID Share Posted April 14, 2005 Precisely what I said. I didn't say java, I said java app. It's the application that is hosed. Another reason I don't use them anymore except an occasional test to see if they fixed the damn thing. It doesn't have anything to do with any part of Java at all. Most other test sites besides Testmy use very small (under 1024Kb) to test your speeds. Those tests aren't optimized for broadband.
