jaross Posted July 11, 2004 Author CID Share Posted July 11, 2004 well that link i posted worked for me. here is another one that should work. it will bring you to a different download site this time. and remember when you open it, since it is an executable, you need to click and drag it out of the zip folder! http://www.computerbase.de/downloads/software/browser/mozilla_optimizer/

Swimmer Posted July 12, 2004 CID Share Posted July 12, 2004 since we are on this subject here is an interesting little article... looks like IE's popularity went down a little in June of this year... The first time in over a decade... It fell from 95.48% of all personal computer world wide to 94.42%... The main reason.. security and Netscape and other open source variants... Like Firefox... which by the way hit an all time record for the program with a little over 200,000 download per day from download.com ... O by the way the Apple people dont use IE any more... They use some wacky program called Safari... Now there is an original name... "Honey, what are you doing on the G5 right now?" "I am on a Safari.." Hell I think microsoft should rename IE the "Great Adventure with tons of security holes and bottom less pit of popups" That would attract people to download it.. ice Posted July 12, 2004 CID Share Posted July 12, 2004 IE is not secure, and is crap. I will never use it again. Too many damn holes. Oh, and I did this tweak myself last month.
jaross Posted July 12, 2004 Author CID Share Posted July 12, 2004 ie sucks and y ai have an apple (along with my 3 pcs) and safari is ok. i still prefer firefox for mac although i am prutty sure all firefox is is a variation of netscape (variation of mozilla....) god damn though! i love OS X!!! any other mac os sucks but dont diss on macs unless you have used os x for atleast an hour straight
CA3LE Posted July 12, 2004 CID Share Posted July 12, 2004 Well I never see any security problems because I run Symantec Client Security... it has made my internet browsing much more enjoyable and basically blocks out everything but the real content of the pages I am requesing... it's very smart too. I have ran it for about 2 months now and had only a couple of spyware/adware bugs reported from Adaware since ~~ I see almost NO advertisments anymore, and if an ad does get through... and bugs me, I can add them to my library and never have to see it again ~ You can see more here >> http://enterprisesecurity.symantec.com/products/products.cfm?ProductID=154 --- it's a killer program
CA3LE Posted July 12, 2004 CID Share Posted July 12, 2004 Okay... I am kinda starting to like Foxfire now... still need some time. I do like the customization I just did, very cool in that aspect... got it to run a bit faster too :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 3903 Kbps about 3.9 Mbps (tested with 1496 KB) Download Speed is:: 476 KB/sec Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line:: 70 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 2.15 second(s) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=QHB6HFDO5
Swimmer Posted July 13, 2004 CID Share Posted July 13, 2004 Just the plain internet security from Nortan does a good job with ads and popups... I have yet to see anything to make me want to remove this program... I am not a big mac fan but that is ok... I love the g5 case!! That is one impressive computer!! I think that linux does the same if not more for people that Apple does for the mac world... I will say that MAC is undoubtly the leader in video editing and photo rendering... Just to watch what quick time can do is really impressive
ice Posted July 13, 2004 CID Share Posted July 13, 2004 Firefox is faster here for me. I also had trouble with Norton, and don't like that either. Currently, my PC is totally screwed, and I will probably have to reformat, thanks to people not knowing anything about computers, and using IE. Won't get into it here. Swimmer Posted July 13, 2004 CID Share Posted July 13, 2004 I read some where that it is recommended that every 6 months you reformat... I believe that the microsoft people redo their entire computer every month or so... just to keep them running smooth... Now I dont know how Microsoft can expect grandma to figure out the difference between ntfs and fat32 then expect them to find all the drivers that they need to make their computer work like they originally had it... The only thing that really works for me is ghosting a computer... reinstall the os and then make a iso copy of the hard drive... that way when things are running slow and you want a fresh start you pop in the cd copy it over and boom you have a new computer... Here is the general idea... http://www.iamnotageek.com/showthread.php?threadid=5533

I am not to fond of their update stuff be that is ok as long as it works... I hate the google toolbar.... I have a friend who is now trying to clean his computer because some how it allowed his browser to become hijacked... As soon as we removed it and cleaned the system the computer was running better but there were still pop up like mad... be careful!! I would never download any "toolbars" from anyone... I think you are just asking for trouble..

Check out virusbulletin.com , NOD32 is the best there, and I think it is too. Also, the toolbars stopped blcoking most things for me. I agree though that Google is cool, as is Yahoo. RaWDiZ Posted July 15, 2004 CID Share Posted July 15, 2004 Yo... Since IE has alot of security holes... What is tha best browser for windows I've had to many of them $h t$
Mr. Hahn Posted July 15, 2004 CID Share Posted July 15, 2004 Guys, the best thing to use for pop-ups is EMS Free Surfer mk ll. I've been using it for as long as I remember (years), and it does a great job. It automatically loads at startup if you want it to and just sits in your taskbar hardly using up any resources. It also has a little cache cleaner utility built in as an added bonus if you don't have one already. NOTE: It sometimes (very seldomly) doesn't allow pop-up content that you actually want to pup up. If that happens, just right-click the taskbar icon, turn it off, open what you wanted to open, then turn it back on. No biggie. The program sets off your computers internal beep everytime a pop-up ad is blocked by default, so you'll automatically know it's the culprite. Don't get worried by this. As I said, it doesn't happen very often. This is just a heads up. EMS Free Surfer mk ll Enjoy -Mr. Hahn

Mr. Hahn Posted July 15, 2004 CID Share Posted July 15, 2004 I said by default... You can make it play any sound you want or turn off the sound completely.
