cholla Posted June 16, 2005 CID Share Posted June 16, 2005 aerodude : Do the TCPIP analyzer test at the site below. https://www.speedguide.net/index.php See if your dial-up connection changed the MTU&MSS & maybe RWIN to optimize them for dialup. I don't know what faster connection you have But when connected with the faster connection your MTU &MSS Should be for cable MTU 1500 MSS 1460 for PPPoE MTU 1492 MSS 1452 There are some different settings for XP with PPPoE If thats what you have get Van Buren to help you. I'm not sure about satellite I think they're the same as cable. If these are like they should be I don't know where the slow down came from.It may be how you connected both like through a USB hub or something . Guest aerodude Posted June 16, 2005 CID Share Posted June 16, 2005 TCP options string = 0204058c MTU = 1460 MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput. MSS = 1420 MSS is not fully optimized for broadband (although it might work well for slower connections). Consider increasing your MTU value. Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 16000 RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits Unscaled Receive Window = 16000 For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS. Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS: 522560 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 261280 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 4) 130640 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 2) 65320 (MSS x 46) bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test): Your RcvWindow limits you to: 640 kbps (80 KBytes/s) @ 200ms Your RcvWindow limits you to: 256 kbps (32 KBytes/s) @ 500ms Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband. MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON Time to live left = 244 hops TTL value is ok. Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = OFF IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000 (0) :(help,,

php Posted June 18, 2005 CID Share Posted June 18, 2005 just FYI cholla, the test reads the MTU ans MSS from the DWay proxy servers, which is 1460 and 1420, respectively. I could change my MTU to anything and I wouldn't see a difference on the test...
cholla Posted June 19, 2005 CID Share Posted June 19, 2005 php I'll try to keep that in mind or in my notes .Thats why I said he really shoud get someone with DWay to help.I wonder why the test reads the proxy servers instead of his PC?I guess that test isn't much use to DWay users.Odd that it got faster after aerodude did the test & adjusted something I guess.Looks like he's still having problems because he has another post right now.
