Guest mzhao Posted June 20, 2005 CID Share Posted June 20, 2005 All of a sudden my Wideopenwest cable connections have gone from 3-4 mbps download and ~300 kbps upload to this: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 85 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 97 kB) Download Speed is:: 10 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server1) Test Time:: Mon Jun 20 2005 14:31:08 GMT-0500 (Central Daylight Time) Bottom Line:: 2X faster than 56K 1MB download in 102.4 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 2.66 % of your hosts average (wideopenwest.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-72RYTFPVD :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Connection is:: 163 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 97 kB) Upload Speed is:: 20 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server1) Test Time:: Mon Jun 20 2005 14:31:37 GMT-0500 (Central Daylight Time) Bottom Line:: 3X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 51.2 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 63.18 % of your hosts average (wideopenwest.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-A6D418W2B Those speeds remind me of the bad old dial-up days. I've tweaked with Cablenut, no spyware/adware/virii on my system, no P2P programs running, etc. The only thing I know of that could have caused this would be the new LAN drivers I got from Windows Update. I tried with a few different driver versions, but none of them could fix the problem. Any suggestions? Tweaks?
VanBuren Posted June 20, 2005 CID Share Posted June 20, 2005 hey mzhao and welcome to the forum try this first open cablenut, click delete cablenut tweaks and click save to registry and reboot now you have windows default TCP settings if speed still are low, download the latest driver from manufactor homepage and install it VanBuren

Guest mzhao Posted June 20, 2005 CID Share Posted June 20, 2005 Yes, I read that post. I followed the instructions there, but the speeds didn't improve. Maybe if I power-cycle my modem... That doesn't mean that your actual connection is that low, just the results, so unless you notice a night-and-day difference in browsing and downloading with the router in the connection, it's probably ok. Otherwise, make sure that your router is configured properly with your devices, and that firmware is up to date, stuff like that.
Guest mzhao Posted June 21, 2005 CID Share Posted June 21, 2005 Thanks. The router may be necessary though; it serves as a Wi-Fi access point for several other computers.

It is also the best firewall you can have, so use it if you got it.
