ClyftonSM Posted July 25, 2005 CID Share Posted July 25, 2005 Ok I have FiOS 15/2 and they said I needed the dlink router to get the maximum speeds out of the 15/2 which seems to be right, They have an updated firmware, But when I see the firmware of the router its very old compared to the firmware that is out on dlinks site. Is Verizon going to keep updates to the firmware or just have it never updated. Or would it be ok to install a new firmware. Clifton
netmasta Posted July 26, 2005 CID Share Posted July 26, 2005 Welcome to the forums, ClyftonSM I don't have FIOS, but I believe Verizon uses custom firmware (Model VDI-624 Vs. DI-624). Edit: This is the notice next to firmware v. 2.50 "If you have the VDI-624 (revC3), do NOT upgrade firmware. Contact your ISP for an upgrade." ClyftonSM Posted July 26, 2005 Author CID Share Posted July 26, 2005 Ok, I did find an updated firmware from Verizon themselves for the dlink router, But I am wondering if that firmware is compatible with the FiOS service or just the DSL service. One bad thing is they dont tell what it changes or updates. and which service it is for. I am thinking it should be for FiOS because they dont give out these routers to DSL subscribers they normally give out westell dsl modems. Am I right on this? KingCobra Posted July 26, 2005 CID Share Posted July 26, 2005 The official location for the firmware is http://www2.verizon.net/micro/dlink/Default.asp If your connection is working and you are getting advertised speeds, then there's no reason to change. FiosFiend Posted August 8, 2005 CID Share Posted August 8, 2005 I have fios and have NEVER used the router that they gave me. I have my own d-link DI-524 wireless router and it has the latest firmware update and I get the full speed out of it. :::.. hupp3l Posted August 10, 2005 CID Share Posted August 10, 2005 I dont get it. you guys are using wireless routers and getting full speeds. My speeds max at 12mb/s Im gonna upgrade my firmware
ClyftonSM Posted August 10, 2005 Author CID Share Posted August 10, 2005 I dont think it has to do with the routers as it has to do with the OS Optimizations. I used some from a guy from here and it worked better then the ones verizon gives you. Clifton
