Swimmer Posted October 9, 2004 CID Share Posted October 9, 2004 that is where the tracerts come into play... Their is nothing that they can do about a tracert to comcast.net.. it is basically a local network at that point.. so you are not going out on to the "big" network.. CA3LE's site isnt 100% accurate... But it is the best out there.. It really depends on the routers and the network load itself on your end.. If the cable is "flucuant" you might want to replace the cable that the modem is on.. or move it to the main cable once it comes into the house.. see if that works... RUN A TRACERT and then post the results.. we might be able to get you some help...
rob7239 Posted October 12, 2004 Author CID Share Posted October 12, 2004 ok i found this kinda odd, when i used download accelorator plus my download speeds were around 300KB/sec and tops was 420KB/sec. Can someone please tell me why my speed here is very slow and when i download stuff with this program it is fast. Thanks
MICROWAVE Posted October 12, 2004 CID Share Posted October 12, 2004 rob, The pgm you are using (and there have been many over the years)does whats called pre-fetching,I'm not sure about this one but many over the years have had all kinds of scum ware built into its program. basically when you are at a site it starts loading what it thinks you are gonna want from the page,on the other hand thats not gonna be allowed on this site..I will look further at this pgm. because I'm not familiar with it but, I am pretty sure it must work using the same concept, the other thing that this type of pgm does is download a large file from several different sites at the same time.....like copy the first half from one site (or file) and the second half from another site......and if I am wrong I will repost or someone will correct me....I can only remember naviscope as one of these types of pgms. I know there are (or were) many but thats the only one whose name I can think of at the moment....sigh....brain fart or age I'm not sure witch it is.....lol Microwave

MICROWAVE Posted October 12, 2004 CID Share Posted October 12, 2004 Most web browsers spend a great deal of time idle. To take advantage of this unused time, a browser might be designed which would load into memory other pages which the user might want to visit after finishing with the current page. Through multi-threaded page fetches initiated in the user's computer, these pages could be cached without a significant reduction in performance of the browser's current function. This is the context that I am speaking about, although keep in mind there are several ways this term is used, but the thing that would bother me about this type of program is that I have no doubt even when someone buys this that it has tracking code along for the ride.....and on my dime.......grrrrrrr. rob7239 Posted October 13, 2004 Author CID Share Posted October 13, 2004 hmmm would i be able to get the same speeds without this program? and also would i be able to check to see if it has a tracking cookie with adware or spybot?
VanBuren Posted October 13, 2004 CID Share Posted October 13, 2004 ok i found this kinda odd' date=' when i used download accelorator plus my download speeds were around 300KB/sec and tops was 420KB/sec. Can someone please tell me why my speed here is very slow and when i download stuff with this program it is fast. Thanks[/quote'] like MICROWAVE said this program use multiple TCP streams, and all speedtests only using single TCP streams The adventage with multiple TCP streams is mainly on high ping downloads, or with unstable and bad routing. If you get packetloss, you probl get packetloss only at one TCP stream each time, that way the other streams will continue downloading. DAP, Stardownloader is great programs and i recommend using them, but you cant compare them with speedtests. If you havent tried my tweakguide, i recommend to do that, you find it in Make it faster "Read this before you post........ " good luck VanBuren
