Guest acdcrocks... Posted October 10, 2004 CID Share Posted October 10, 2004 Does anyone know what the average connection speed of a cable modem should be? I have a cable modem, and my results after I test are never higher than around 2.7 Mbps.....is this average, poor, or good? Just curious......... RTB Posted October 10, 2004 CID Share Posted October 10, 2004 Wrong forum. The maximum speed of a cable modem is 50 Mbps or so, minimal is 0 of course, so that makes an average of 25 Mbps. If you're not capped. Considering your speed I'd say you're capped at 3 Mbps. You're at 90% of your advertised speed already, so it's great already. But if you want to tweak, go ahead and get faster. The 3 day average on testmy.net is about 1.3 Mbps, you're way above that. Beware that you'll be placed on the list if you go over 3 Mbps. luwigie Posted October 11, 2004 CID Share Posted October 11, 2004 The average speed if you are thinking theoretically is indeed some where around 25 mbps. Usually the average cable user obtains some where between 2000-6000. This depends on your plan. The rule of thumb is to be within 90% of what you are paying for. I would check out VanBuren's tweak topic in "Make it faster" to see if you can make it faster

RTB Posted October 13, 2004 CID Share Posted October 13, 2004 While that is a nice score (you're added to the list btw), it has nothing to do with this topic.
