destructionfever Posted September 6, 2005 CID Share Posted September 6, 2005 Just wondering if it is good to use an anonymous proxy. If so, I know not to use just any because it could lead hackers right to your system. If they are safe please let me know of a good free one. Thanks all. resopalrabotnick Posted September 6, 2005 CID Share Posted September 6, 2005 well, even the safety issue being solved, you don't know if the proxy is any good. there have been tests where the proxy showed you were properly hidden but it was a small matter to find out your true ip address. and again, if you use an anonymous proxy, you're just raising red flags all over the place, since of course the ip pools of the anonymous proxys are well known by those that care about such things. Swimmer Posted September 6, 2005 CID Share Posted September 6, 2005 There really isnt a need for proxies.. most of them create logs so if you do do something illegal.. they will know who it was...
raptors892004 Posted September 9, 2005 CID Share Posted September 9, 2005 Take a look here. The program is called proxyway (free version) and it checks proxies off of given websites to see if they are active, what their speed is.. Then you can apply them to your system
resopalrabotnick Posted September 9, 2005 CID Share Posted September 9, 2005 and you don't know if it transmits your info back to the author, and it can only check if the proxy is active, not if it does any good as a cloak.

If you think about it this way, then every free program could POTENTIALLY transmit your data to its author.. If you are so concerned about that, block it from accessing the net and see what connections it makes
resopalrabotnick Posted September 10, 2005 CID Share Posted September 10, 2005 well, yeah, you could become paranoid like that. but when you're using a tool written by someone that more or less obviously intends to make this tool available for shady purposes ( proxy checker, virus creation toolkit, trojan toolkit etc.) you have to think that this person is himself a more or less shady character that isn't above using the program he distributes for his own shady means. Elite.Pete Posted September 10, 2005 CID Share Posted September 10, 2005 heh. when you get into realms of hacking/cracking (i've been thier) you come in contact with alot of shady programs/authors you really just need to know that no one is above using thier program for devious means
