netmasta Posted September 26, 2005 CID Share Posted September 26, 2005 Welcome to the site redwreck. Did you read the top 2 posts on this board ("tips" and "Make it faster" yet?
Redwreck Posted September 29, 2005 Author CID Share Posted September 29, 2005 Hi...and thanks for the welcome. I apologize if I didn't put enough info in my earlier post. I've read the "sticky" notes at the top of the board. I am running Windows XP Home Edition-SP2. My ISP is Road Runner...and I reside approx. 25 miles from the server. Advertised speeds are up to 5000 kbps down and 384 kbps up. Prior to any tweaks I was getting between 2500-2900 kbps down, and began to test different RWINs...resulting in the speed increase noted above. I have followed all instructions per the "sticky" notes and have installed CableNut 4.08 since my last post. I have, thus far, gotten the best speed by using Vanburens cablenut settings version 5....the CCS for WIN2k_XP_SP2/WinXP_2K_CABLE_DSL/MSS1460, Cable and DSL 5000 384. My speed was further improved and I've noticed no adverse effects of the settings, even though the tweak test at dsl reports recommends a lower RWIN. These are tests I've run with my current settings... :::.. FallowEarth Posted September 9, 2006 CID Share Posted September 9, 2006 Redwreck, your traceroute and ping look good. It is likely that you will be able to boost your speed by eliminating some software that is running. But first of all, try booting into safe mode with networking and running a few speedtests. This is usually a good indication of whether you've got software slowing you down or not.
