EvilNightHawk3 Posted October 3, 2005 CID Share Posted October 3, 2005 I recently bought a new Gigabit switch and gigabit Nic cards for my comp. it seems to be alot better thna my other regular switch and nic cards. Wondering will this new swtich handle traffic better?
Elite.Pete Posted October 3, 2005 CID Share Posted October 3, 2005 probably not since you don't have a gigabit connection
Swimmer Posted October 3, 2005 CID Share Posted October 3, 2005 umm.. depends.. most internet traffic doesnt even come close to 100mb.. so the gigabit is a little over kill.. however.. there is more bandwidth available overall... depending one what kind of switch you got could make a huge difference.. i am not sure what you were running before.. If you has a 10/100 switch that was running at 10.. then this would be huge.. however.. you would also have to have a 10baseT nic.. or have your 10/100 nic in that mode.. Blunted Posted October 3, 2005 CID Share Posted October 3, 2005 maybe on the network but not for your internet speed
spacedinvader Posted October 3, 2005 CID Share Posted October 3, 2005 well i just installed a card my self and have giGBit connection the difference that i see is a more stable connection like on here for example no more stat bar freezing everything runs smooth it can handle the packets better i guess and see better speeds. The in house tech also told me to switch my prime and second dns #'s around. So with all the changes yes for me it does handle traffic better. But again I'm on gig network so for standard connection i wouldn't think it would really matter but.... i also think that we got upgraded too cause check out the speed alot closer to 45Mbps the past day noticed it while it was loading web pages :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 26563 Kbps about 26.6 Mbps (tested with 12160 kB) Download Speed is:: 3243 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Mon Oct 3 06:41:14 CDT 2005 Bottom Line:: 474X faster than 56K 1MB download in 0.32 sec Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 99.29 % faster than the average for host (waldenweb.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-TLDA86KBE :::..
