Does a Gigabit switch handle traffic better than a regular cheap switch?

Recommended Posts

umm.. depends.. most internet traffic doesnt even come close to 100mb.. so the gigabit is a little over kill.. however.. there is more bandwidth available overall... depending one what kind of switch you got could make a huge difference.. i am not sure what you were running before.. If you has a 10/100 switch that was running at 10.. then this would be huge.. however.. you would also have to have a 10baseT nic.. or have your 10/100 nic in that mode..

well i just installed a card my self and have giGBit connection the difference that i see is a more stable connection like on here for example no more stat bar freezing everything runs smooth it can handle the packets better i guess and see better speeds. The in house tech also told me to switch my prime and second dns #'s around. So with all the changes yes for me it does handle traffic better. But again I'm on gig network so for standard connection i wouldn't think it would really matter but.... i also think that we got upgraded too cause check out the speed alot closer to 45Mbps the past day noticed it while it was loading web pages :::..
