ice Posted December 11, 2003 CID Share Posted December 11, 2003 Just a tip, maybe like 2-3MB or something. I download over 500KB/s, and the closest I get to that here is with a custom test of 11mb. http://www.testmy.net/cgi-bin/load.cgi?rand=yes&rn=outside&site_name=OUTSIDE&s=12268000&site_url=http://www.sportsmogul.com/demo/bb2k4demo.htm&src=http://www.sportsmogul.com/demo/bb2k4v606demo-setup.exe Other than that, your site kicks ass. I should be getting 4.2mb/s or around there, but with "Smart test" I get about 2900.
CA3LE Posted December 11, 2003 CID Share Posted December 11, 2003 Can you post a score of yours from the SmarTest ??? Lemme see what I can do. The reason I don't make my larger sizes public is because of bandwidth... when you have hundreds of thousands of tests ran per month, bandwidth becomes quite an issue to deal with. Also with the SmarTest I am adjusting that every now and then, I need to find a happy configuration that will forward the right people to the right test sizes. If your line is that fast, the last test you test from should be about 1.5 mB ~ and should display very accurate results... but hit the forum back up with your pasted scores (at the bottom of the results page) ~ and i will see what needs to be done... ice Posted December 12, 2003 Author CID Share Posted December 12, 2003 Ok, thanks. I will do it right now.
ice Posted December 12, 2003 Author CID Share Posted December 12, 2003 Well, these are really bad, but for some reason thats about as high as it goes right now. I'm the only one here with cable, and I still download at my usual speeds, the test is just worse right now. ::: Download Stats ::: Connection is: 2334 kbps about 2 Mbps (tested with 748 KB) Download Speed is: 285 Kb/sec Auth Code: 2035011 (validate a http://www.testmy.net) Bottom Line: 42 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 4 second(s) Validation Link :: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/auth_check_dn.cgi?num=2035011&kbps=2334&gen=gen
CA3LE Posted December 12, 2003 CID Share Posted December 12, 2003 okay ... do this, download this file .. and post the screenshot http://www.testmy.net/1200k.test or these http://www.testmy.net/1200k.test?890658095 http://www.testmy.net/1200k.test?839056840 ~~ also let me know your RAM, CPU speed, browser type btw right click and save target
ice Posted December 12, 2003 Author CID Share Posted December 12, 2003 I think it's because my download takes a few more seconds to get up to the max, but I would have downloaded that at about 500KB/s as well. Maybe I will make my own test with a 5mb file or something and show you, but I have a paper to write right now. I have a P4 2.3GHZ with 512DDRam, using the latest IE. CA3LE Posted December 12, 2003 CID Share Posted December 12, 2003 Okay... well I might have to make some adjustments. who is RCN Corporation (in New Jersey right?) ~~ what kind of internet is that.
ice Posted December 12, 2003 Author CID Share Posted December 12, 2003 Nope, I'm in PA. RCN is cable. I got upgraded from 1.5mb/s to these speed for free. I actually should be getting 3mb/s, but I get way over that.

ice Posted December 14, 2003 Author CID Share Posted December 14, 2003 Hmm, I can't seem to get there though... Oh well. Always just gives me the 1013kb file.
ice Posted December 24, 2003 Author CID Share Posted December 24, 2003 Problem with mine is, it just takes awhile longer to get idled up all the way. Since it only gives me a 1013kb file, I can't get it up to full speed by then. Just thought I would say that, not usre if you knew it or not. That's why with that 11mb test link that someone made I showed you, I got much higher results. Also, are you planning on making outside tests have the same result layout as yours? CA3LE Posted December 25, 2003 CID Share Posted December 25, 2003 I already have a new deal for webmasters.. check it out... http://www.testmy.net/forumz/viewtopic.php?t=98 Very cool... As for your results... if your throttle starts out mad slow like that then there is no way that I know of to design a test that will give you killer scores... without making HUGE test sizes that will blow my servers bandwidth off the chart. Unfortunately I don't have a connection like your to test from the see what needs to be done.. AND your connections seems to be doing th opposite of what the rest of the CABLE internet community's do... you see, most cable users BURST out the gate then slow down... not gradually go up. You may have a problem ~ and it might be how you have your NIC card settings in windows.. or even your nic card itself ~~~ also I don't design my site around the 1% of the public that has something wierd. I have received emails "Hey, you need to design a test that is 100% NO JAVA" or "Hey you should include [insert random mozilla feature here]" or "hey you should make some special satellite tools" ~~~~ but the truth is, I am not going to spend hours of my life scripting something that only a handful of users will need... but if I can fit it in a much larger plan that will help the entire community then I will work that right into my plan
ice Posted December 26, 2003 Author CID Share Posted December 26, 2003 Nah, I don't have a problem. It only does this when I take tests, when I download something it starts at 200KB/s, and then shoots up to over 500 in a second. I'll check the link you gave me as well.
