FallowEarth Posted October 15, 2005 CID Share Posted October 15, 2005 Yeah, so you may want to look at a new NIC....i'd get a good one, make sure it is 100Mbps capable....you may also need an OS reinstall too
resopalrabotnick Posted October 15, 2005 CID Share Posted October 15, 2005 did you remove it from the device manager and reinstall drivers?
al244 Posted October 15, 2005 Author CID Share Posted October 15, 2005 Ok. Could you guys recommend me a good one that's not too expensive? Hehe. Also, when I reformat my computer, do I need a brand new product key? I don't remmeber...haven't done it in a while.
FallowEarth Posted October 15, 2005 CID Share Posted October 15, 2005 I'd suggest Linksys, i find they make the best networking hardware. As far as the licence key...is your copy of Windows legit? lol....if it is, you shouldn't need one.

FallowEarth Posted October 15, 2005 CID Share Posted October 15, 2005 i'm not convinced his nic is dead. al244 Posted October 15, 2005 Author CID Share Posted October 15, 2005 Yes my copy of Windows is legit on this one. My other comp with good specs that I like was pirated, so now I can't use it and it it's the corner of this getting all dusty. I never found a way to get a working product key for it. Haha. I'll call Dell first, and if they can't do anything I'll buy that network card. Edit: Hmm, you both think its my OS? I'll reformat tomorrow then after I copy all of my stolen music on a CD. Grr, I hate reformating.
resopalrabotnick Posted October 15, 2005 CID Share Posted October 15, 2005 you're getting ahead of yourself. first, go to store, purchase 99 buck winxp home. install on other comp, save it from existence as paperweight.. second, go to device manager, remove nic from list, uninstall drivers if it asks, then reboot. compuworm Posted October 15, 2005 CID Share Posted October 15, 2005 Hey look I am a nood at this stuff, really but I too have a central computer connected to a router and we have a second computer connected wirelessly. Yes. the wireless adapter is a linksys and what we have found is sometimes the network web key must be entered again even though we can see it is listed for the second computer.. So, we wiped the WEP key entry and entered it again and then press the connect button and yes there we go, it connects. I can't explain it but this has happened enough that it is my understanding based on what you are saying here it could be your problem too if you are using a web key. Anyway, give it a try I am only trying to help. Sincerely, compuworm
