Marcin541 Posted November 14, 2004 CID Share Posted November 14, 2004 Im on the 1.5/384 plan which i pay $29.99 for. Why not Cable? DSL is a new technology which needs time to develop, I chose DSL because i know ill get a specific amout of bandwidth, unlike Cable which is up and down alot. DSL service shares bandwidth amongst ALL users connected to the same DSLAM. Cable shares bandwidth amongst ALL users connected to the same CMTS. Another reason is that OOL is not available in my area, and that is the only Cable isp i have even considered. Anyways, my download and upload arent high, but they arent low either. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 1371 Kbps about 1.4 Mbps (tested with 748 KB) Download Speed is:: 167 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line:: 24 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 6.13 second(s) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=6707UBXNL :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Connection is: 364 Kbps about 0.4 Mbps (tested with 386 KB) Upload Speed is: 44 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line: 7 times faster than 56K you can upload 1MB in 23.27 second(s) Validation Link :: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=6XVWKV5HJ The only downside of Verizon is their Tech support. Sometimes they are good, and at others they aren't. Some of their tech support people don't seem to know what they are talking about, but others sound professional and are able to resolve problems. Long story short.. Verizon is a good enough ISP for me
Mr. Hahn Posted November 15, 2004 CID Share Posted November 15, 2004 You're getting what you pay for, smile. As for the tech support, it's that way with almost all ISPs. When Charter first came to my area, connection speed was repulsive, and I was always pinging 999 in online games. I must've called their tech support upwards of 50 times before it was finally fixed, no exaggeration. They sounded so professional and like they knew what they were doing, but they would always tell me my connection was fine and that they had no clue what I was talking about. The times I actually convinced them to send a truck out here, the guy would screw some hand-held thing onto one of my cable jacks, stare at it a second, and tell me the same bs. Everything was fine and they had no clue what I was talking about. It's all smoke and mirrors. They give you the run around until they finally feel like fixing it. You're no special case, believe you me.

Marcin541 Posted November 17, 2004 Author CID Share Posted November 17, 2004 I called them after being pissed that they havent answered my email, and the support person knew exactly what i was talking about. He said that i would get 3/768 for 29.95 and keep everything as is. Then while he was upgrading me we had a talk about FIOS. He said he was interested in it aswell . He knew that it wasnt out for me yet, and thats what he told me. And he said FIOS will blow away the competitors (Cable) away. Its based upon the same technology. He said we would be able to receive TV through it too (Verizon TV?) and the only difference between FIOS and calbe is that FIOS is extremely fast. So im getting 3/768 in 24-48 hours
