Hey guys.. Nice site you guys have here.. I have been reading some posts here about Dial-Up tips/speeds/etc.. Great stuff.. anyways, i tried some tips.. i have a 56k modem.. connects at 50.6kbps.. i disabled hardware compression. etc.. and did some tests.. here's what i got:

Welcome  mrkcee; it is a neat site(if you like tweaking and sharing/reading experiences).

Noticed your Test time (China Standard Time) , are you really testing from China?

If so, that might explain some of your speed results.

I 'seem' to get faster speed scores ~ using VanBuren's XP DSL low-end settings.

Good ISP connect status  , (but distance to the US test servers will effect your test scores, not to mention China's Internet filtering protocal, for lack of a better censurable peoples resolution, . . .if you are connecting from 'The Peoples Republic'?)

How do you use cablenut? ~ just click on the.ccs file you want to try and it will load into CableNut Adjuster, then press "Save to Registry", then "Done" ~ then re-start your computer for the 'new' settings to take effect.

For faster speeds I use Cable & DSL 512 128.ccs

I used to have Comcast HS cable and tweaked it past it's cap,

so when I went back to Dial-Up I just continued to tweak things.

(some settings probably just remained the same in my Registry)

Here's some Registry tweaks, if your comfortable doing this. Just export the keys and save in some Registry Back-up folder in "My Documents" for back-up and enter the 'new' values in your Registry.

By default Windows  XP caches everything in the DNS cache service, both correct and faulty DNS lookups. To increase performance by eliminating the caching of faulty DNS lookups, change the following values from whatever their original values are to zero.

Are they D words or Binary Values in XP mine are Binary Values in Windows ME.In Windows ME only the DWord has a hexadecimal setting. The examples I have seen on the web tweaks  look like this:

resopalrabotnick : The tweak the one I have is supposed to set the priority order..The one you see most sets the priority of all of them to 1 but since they all can't have first priority At least I don't believe they can.

I could probably find the tweak on the web & post a link to it .The cablenut site says all should be 1.

To give an example I will put the original settings like they were before I did the tweak.

In Windows 9x & ME Binary Value is a seperate setting or category in the registry.There are 3 types

The tweak seems to work like I have it for my OS I tried it all set to 1 & it didn't work as well for me.

But XP might work better all set to 1 I don't know.

well, your original values are hexadecimal, 4 bytes each. each byte is represented by a 2 digit hexadecimal value. binary it would be much longer, you would need 8 digits for each byte. that is mainly why the hexadecimal system is used in this context, it can elegantly represent the 256 (dec) possible values the sequence of 8 bits can represent in 2 alphanumeric digits, each with a value of 0 to f.
