heres the thing while im doing my routine maintainance for my computer, after running some anti-spyware programs i ran SPYBOT S&D 1.4 and after it scans i closed it. i noticed that my pc slowed down. so i checked my pc performance in the task manager and it showed a lot of spikes! from 2% to 50% to 100% and back again to 0% and so on. it keeps fluctuating every 1 second or so. i restarted my computer and it still doing the spikes.

i dont know what to do! somebody pls help me!!

im pretty sure that i dont have any virus or spyware that slow my pc bcoz i didnt installed anything prior to the spikes. and i regularly ran antivirus, anti trojan and diff anti spyware programs to make sure i woudnt have any problems but here it goes i had a problem on spikes and i dont have any idea whats causing this. can somebody pls help me. i cant use my computer properly

oh thank God for the quick reply! you guys are the best! :)

i already checked the processes and its seems normal to me, theres no foreign process and theres no process that is superhigh on its mem usage.(well thats what i think)

ok here i got some more info. here are the list of the security softwares im running, kaspersky antivirus ver 5 (realtime protection), outpost firewall, trojan hunter (trojan hunter guard enabled), ad-aware, spyguard, spyware blaster and spybot S&D and counter spy ver 1.5 (active protection enabled). ive been running this programs for quite a while now and in the past they have been consistent, giving me no problems at all.

isnt this problem a common one? i dunno..im getting a bit worried now.

as i noticed the spikes turned relatively low now, but then when i opened the counterspy 1.5 it the cpu usage went crazy again flying up and down the screen! but this is the 1st time this happened, im using the CS 1.5 for 5 days now and for the past 4 days everythings normal. im not sure if its the CS of the Spybot. i really havent got a clue.

maybe the CS is the one whos causing the problem because i have it only for 5 days now.and its the one who is new to my security arsenal.

(should i uninstall CS and Spybot?) what do you think? maybe i could use Hijackthis log to show you guys more info bout whats happening in my computer? (i havnt used that yet but maybe il figure it out if i needed to use that). Indeed thank you so much. hope you guys can stick around til i solve what the hell is wrong with my computer. i rely on your expertise to solve my problem as i have no where to run to. Thanks again, you help is greatly appreciated. Godbless you.

umm..how can i post pictures again. i cant find the attach files button. im sorry,im new here. i was going to show you my process and performance.

oh, theres 1 that is very high, (i didnt notice this a while ago)

the winlogon.exe its eating 50,000 K of memory. thats high isnt it? but i know that its an essential process and svchost.exe its eating 36,000 of my memory. well everything is the same now, the outpost and the CS are high but its normal to them and i didnt have any problems running them even they use a lot of memory before..

i dunno..i think even an extra 80,000 K woulnt hurt my computer, i think my computer can cope up with this. so this musnt be the problem right?.oh i dont know what to do.

Thanks again, il wait for your expert opinion about my problem. Godbless

Take my word for it...your CPU spikes are caused by CounterSpy!!!!...They are happening about every 3 seconds right?...Yea...I tried the new CounterSpy out, and it's a HUGE Resource HOG......I had the same problems with the spikes after I installed it...they would jump up to 30-40% CPU usage...NO Thanks!!!! I uninstalled it and went back to MS AntiSpyware...that only uses about 6% on the spikes... ;)

woah! thats what i thought. but the weird thing is i already have it for 5 days and the last 4 days its working perfectly fine, if its the one causing it it should have done my cpu spikes right after i installed it right? but it take your word and i will uninstall it. hopefully the spikes from hell will go away now. Thanks again. Thank God for Testmy.net! :)

and oh.. the winlogon.exe its now consuming only 696K! weird huh?! from 50,000 to 696. but even its only 696 now my computer is still spiking. so its not the one whos causing me problems. cheers guys!

here the my processes and the CPU usage with the kernel times.

yes i checked the vents and fans, theyre good. still circulating air in my system. the kernel time, thats the red line isnt it? most of the time its very very low just creeping below the green line. by the way whats the kernel times for? thanks a lot again.

Kernel memory is non-paged memory that remains resident in physical memory (RAM) used by your operating system and device drivers in Windows.[checking this can tell you if your OS is responsible for consuming your CPU cycles]

Svchost is the application responsible for launching the processes assoiciated with the behind-the-scenes programs controlled by the Services window (services.msc). You should never interfere with any instances of svchost.exe or services.exe. Use the Services window (services.msc) to start or stop a service or choose whether or not a service is started automatically when Windows starts. [you can go to the Services window to stop a service you might think is causing the problem if it's listed there, but be careful ~ check my link here to see what services are and what can be safely disabled or set to manual. > Advanced Perfomance Services <+> http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=9452.0]
