resijs Posted November 25, 2005 CID Share Posted November 25, 2005 At Tigerdirect I was looking for graphics cards when I noticed this. Most of the 128MB graphics cards are more expensive than the 256MB ones. WTF IS GOING ON? http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1522065&Tab=0&NoMapp=0 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1496792&Tab=0&NoMapp=0 The 256MB is all around the better choice, what's the problem here? And I also found a 512MB Geforce that was cheaper than a 128 or 256.... wtf?
fattymcbluff Posted November 25, 2005 CID Share Posted November 25, 2005 more memory craper core
resijs Posted November 25, 2005 Author CID Share Posted November 25, 2005 They both have the same core speeds, I ruled that out. And it's not just these two btw. The 512MB 6600 I found had a wicked core speed compared to the others.
QoiZ Posted November 27, 2005 CID Share Posted November 27, 2005 Because the 256 one is made of very weak T-Alloy and CGC770- Internal Cirquits meaning it has a GREAT chance of breaking(as bad as say... 80% chance itll break within 1 month), whereas the 128 tends to last a LONG time due to quality materials. AgentGOD Posted November 27, 2005 CID Share Posted November 27, 2005 LMFAO ROFL. The 6200 is the WORST deal you can get. Consider THESE if you think the 6200 is so 'great': http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814133143 - PNY GeForce FX 5700 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814133129 - PNY GeForce 6600 GT - for $99 (PCI-Express) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814145107 - CHAINTECH GeForce 6600 GT - for $149 (AGP) Admit it. AGP is extinct. So be it. One thing to add on: Just because the card has 256 MB of RAM, you must consider that the SPEED of the RAM AND/OR the GPU core *may* be slower. Ex: a GeForce 6600NU has 256 MB of RAM (usually), BUT it has DDR1 RAM. A GeFroce 6600 GT uses GDDR3 RAM, even though it has LESS (128 MB). I would still go with the GDDR3 one, just because its faster.
RTB Posted November 27, 2005 CID Share Posted November 27, 2005 Admit it. AGP is extinct. So be it. Hardware manufacturers want to make you think that, but it doesn't explain why over 80% of all cards in use is still AGP. I'm going PCI-E though, as it's nice to be different, and faster
AgentGOD Posted November 27, 2005 CID Share Posted November 27, 2005 You do realize that AGP cards are officially out of production as of now, right?
RTB Posted November 27, 2005 CID Share Posted November 27, 2005 Yep, so that percentage will eventually become 0. But, I have no doubt that AGP will still be used for quite some time by quite alot of people.
AgentGOD Posted November 27, 2005 CID Share Posted November 27, 2005 No, you weren't listening. It's already out of production. The last production line was the GeForce 6 series, and now the cards of the 6 series (AGP ones) are already out of production. That means, once they all sell, they're gone. RTB Posted November 28, 2005 CID Share Posted November 28, 2005 But that doesn't mean people won't be using them anymore, just forced to go PCI-E when they want a new one, plus there's going to be plenty of used cards on ebay and such. AGP won't die that fast.
