Blunted 2 Posted December 10, 2005 CID Share Posted December 10, 2005 i get this sometimes now but dont know why and read some of this (http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/linux/library/l-sp4.html) and dont understand it all. is this dangerous or am i good with my current setup cause my firewall keeps blocking it. ive had 98 of them since the 24th of november and all have been blocked. i port scanned myself from 0 to 65,500 (TOOK FOREVER) and all ports are marked closed from my firewall. FallowEarth Posted December 11, 2005 CID Share Posted December 11, 2005 Do you use SmartWhois ever? If not, uninstall it. Problem solved.
biker9075 Posted December 11, 2005 CID Share Posted December 11, 2005 People try to access my ports all the time, but McAfee blocks it all
FallowEarth Posted December 11, 2005 CID Share Posted December 11, 2005 The best way to prevent that is to use a router.
Blunted 2 Posted December 11, 2005 Author CID Share Posted December 11, 2005 yea i use that program but it has happened on others and i have static ip's and have changed them but it comes back. everyone got blocked and the program works fine but its annoying sometimes
FallowEarth Posted December 11, 2005 CID Share Posted December 11, 2005 Sounds kinda fishy to me. You gotta wonder if the firewall is missing anything. I would get rid of the program. If you need to use a whois, go to www.arin.net/whois. If you need an app for such things, use one like IP Tools.
Blunted 2 Posted December 11, 2005 Author CID Share Posted December 11, 2005 the reason i like it is cause with the firewall i can click on it and run a who is from my comp and not have to goto a site. its way faster but this comp is crap and nothing personal is on it or any important passwords. this is just browsing and messing around with new software. as far as i know its being blocked cause this firewall asks you for anything to start or modify something or connect to you. i also dont want anything to do anything unless i say and these pics prove it. FallowEarth Posted December 11, 2005 CID Share Posted December 11, 2005 Yeah, but still...your firewall is telling you that it is blocking an incoming connection targetted at this app....you gotta wonder why, no?
Indestructable Posted December 11, 2005 CID Share Posted December 11, 2005 I got one question, where did you get the firewall? Answer 1 for bought it, answer 2 for "some other way" lol...
Blunted 2 Posted December 11, 2005 Author CID Share Posted December 11, 2005 its freeware for 30 days and i just re-installed it a few weeks ago when i installed xp pro and i do have another file that makes it " THE OTHER WAY "
Indestructable Posted December 11, 2005 CID Share Posted December 11, 2005 haha, ok, cause you should try doin a virus scan, and see what comes up. I had a crack for WinRAR 3.51, and bitdefender 9 found it on my friends pc (i gave him the crack when I gave him winrar..) So, what I was getting to was that it depends where you got it, because it very well may be reporting bs...maybe not, but the program might have brought a virus with it if you got it the other way, lol... tell me what happens, and if it doesn't find anything, you maybe should try bd 9 pro, it kicks ass

FallowEarth Posted December 11, 2005 CID Share Posted December 11, 2005 ok, well, do a full scan maybe Blunted 2, my opinion is this: the program is being targetted by activity that you don't want (you blocked it, didn't you?), so remove it and get another one that's probably better anyway.
