ghostmaster Posted December 29, 2005 CID Share Posted December 29, 2005 Ground Control is a VAR for direcway, and I suspect those rates are not valid for Direcway Direct customers..

fikester Posted January 1, 2006 CID Share Posted January 1, 2006 Ground Control is a VAR for DirecWay, and I suspect those rates are not valid for DirecWay Direct customers.. I think your right after checking my usage....looks like on several occasions uploaded over 100MB in a couple hours, speeds remained about the same. This is a good thing as 50MB upload FAP would be another snag for me.
Bird Fan Posted January 2, 2006 Author CID Share Posted January 2, 2006 I finally got my upload back and it looks like Dway has fixed all problems on the AMC3 sat., if only they could fix the Sat Mex 5. :::.. fikester Posted January 2, 2006 CID Share Posted January 2, 2006 My error rates were fixed, however speed still dipped into the 400's on Horizons during evening hours. I have lost any faith they are fixing that, getting new customers every day.
frodoboy Posted January 12, 2006 CID Share Posted January 12, 2006 I am on SatMex 5. The original installers located the dish on the side wall of my house so I can only get SatMex 5. The installers who just came out to fix the problem with the 7000 said the dish needed to be moved so I could get IA8 or any other future satellite but it would cost me $200 to move it unless DWay would pay for it...hahaha. My peak hour speeds dropped to around 250 dl and 95 ul so I called Dway tech support and surprise!!! The tech told me that if I was getting a good signal, it didn't matter what satellite I was pointed at, that would not effect the speed! The tech who came out said he has pointed most everyone to IA8 and it is more stable for speed during peak hours. The DWay tech then did an analysis of my last two days speed tests on the DWay site (that is all they use for reference) and he AVERAGED all the tests and found that I was ABOVE the minimum 500 down and 100 up for the Professional plan. 500 down and 100 up is the ONLY guarantee they have to make for the Pro plan!!! That SUCKS!!!!! One word of advice...DON'T USE THE DWAY SPEED TEST DURING OFF PEAK HOURS IF YOU ARE GOING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT SLOW PEAK HOURS!!! They will look at your wonderful 1000 plus downs and 150 plus ups and then average them with your horrendous 250 downs and 90 ups and come up with an average of 750 down and 110 up and say "you are within the minimum average range!" What we all need to do is only do the tests during peak hours or run the testmy speed tests to ensure the up and down tests are below the 500 minimum and THEN run the DWay tests. Do this every day for a week and THEN call tech support and when they review the results, if your average is BELOW the 500/100 limit, THEN THEY HAVE TO SEND A TECHNICIAN OUT OR GIVE YOU CREDIT!! If enough people are not getting the minimum speed, maybe we can get a class action against them for breech of contract or something. They can fix it for us peons instead of focusing all the bandwidth on power and business users. It is unfair to those of us who have to cough up $69/month and have crappy service during peak hours. I ran a speed test on my lunch break yesterday and it was only 250 down and 85 up. I ran one when I got home and it was 750 down and 185 up. I am going to run these tests every day for a week during lunch so I can prove that I am below the 500 down minimum to get a tech out for free to re-locate my dish (not that that will help the problem................) frodoboy Posted January 13, 2006 CID Share Posted January 13, 2006 Fikester, What are your daytime speeds on Horizons? I am wondering if it is mainly SatMex 5 which I heard is a problem, or do all the satellites have really serious problems during the daytime hours. I've heard they can be slow, but 250 down and 90 up really sucks!!! Patrick
ghostmaster Posted January 13, 2006 CID Share Posted January 13, 2006 Im on AMC9 and during the day speeds are great. I think a lot of the SatMex problems come from the company that owns it not taking care of it. Going bankrupt doesn't help either LOL. Skyterra should buy the sat from them, and try to fix the problems...
fikester Posted January 13, 2006 CID Share Posted January 13, 2006 My speeds are 900-1100 down and 175-214up all day long except between 4pm-midnight then I get 150-500down 38-190 up Its a joke....not an upgrade! Not sure what all sats are having problems.

fikester Posted January 14, 2006 CID Share Posted January 14, 2006 tonight is only the second evening since Dec 1...have tested all but 2-3 evenings during this time period. Dec 31 and Jan 13.....speeds dropped but were still 500+ down, rest of those evenings it drops to below 200 down. My re-point is Sunday 1/15, thats where they want me IA8, but don't know it will work because of tree line....unless they are paying premium plus price for timber don't think its going to happen, my compass could be off? Just don't think the re-point is the correct answer, unless everybody on Horizons 1270 is getting moved?

fikester Posted January 16, 2006 CID Share Posted January 16, 2006 Well Sunday came and gone (supposed to have a repoint that day) .... big surprise? a no show, he did call with the excuse of NOC problems. When I called the installers main office he said the repoint was cancelled due to being a Sunday ( why the heck would it have been schedluled for Sunday then )......This is the biggest joke multi billion dollar company ever to keep on running! They keep the funnies coming at our expense, funny thing is people just keep signing on..... its just hard to buy no installer is closer than 3hours away and booked for a week in advance on installs. How long would a repoint take if you do it all the time....15-25 mins tops? Most of Today was TX code 10 for me......direcway indicates failing transmitter as well
