  1. Is there a way where I can OC mine  for experimental purposes  from the cheapest AMD Dual Core (3800+ I have)  to an equalivant of a AMD  6000+ or 6400+ ? I have stock cooling and my video card is GeForce 8500GT 256MB DDR3.

If so, what settings would I need to change for this experiment?

  2. Lets see how many people participate to see how far this will go !! Please make 2 selections (1 for Download and 1 for Upload)

Note: I am NOT using any accelerator program nor have one on my computer.

Could this be a throw-off to the 7Mbps in my area as its said that it isn't yet because I live too far to get the 7.1Mbps package or was there some sort of upgrade? I had some downtime during the hours of 6pm and 11pm and when I just did a speed test, my suspicions were right that it was an improvement.

  5. Lets just hope they don't take you for granted on shipping. Its a pain having to spend $5-10 here  $5-10 there when in fact you are benefiting the shipping carrier with the money rather MSI. MSI wishes it was the other way around and I'm sure they'll  :smitten: every penny of your money.

Like Dolly Parton says " Yall Come Back Again Real Soon"  :haha:

  6. At least you got it back than getting back an empty box.  That happened to me once. Shipped my motherboard back to Newegg because of it was DOA and they sent me the first time around a box figuring it was my motherboard without checking. Turns out that it was just a box of....AIR :idiot2: . Then the day later, I got my correct box with the new motherboard.

  7. I have the GeForce 8500GT by MSI also and mine locks up sometimes when playing games like Command and Conquer 3  but not with game like Counter-Strike Source. They told me and got a little bad mouth with me over the phone by telling me " Stop blaming our products for your problems." "It seems like you don't look at the requirements for the game before you buy it, instead you and others give us problems for computer games that doesn't work and doesn't perform for everyone's expectations."

I know with Counter-Strike Source, I got my fps well over 400.

My computer is well over the minimum and recommended requirements in order to play Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars  and Kane's Wrath Expansion Game.

Processor: Intel Pentium 4 2.2GHz or equivalent AMD Processor  - Mine is an AMD Athlon 64 X2  3800+ Running at 2.2GHz

Display Card: GeForce4, ATI Radeon 8500 or greater (ATI Radeon 9200 and 9250 PCI, NVIDIA Geforce 4 MX cards not supported.)   Mine is an GeForce8 Series 8500GT.

    Memory: 512MB        Mine is 2GB Corsair XMS DDR2 800

Free Disk Space: 6GB      I have over 130GB in Free Space left

Operating System: Windows XP, Windows Vista (32-bit)      I'm using Windows XP 32-bit

Maybe that should be a New Catch Phrase for an MSI Commercial:  "Stop blaming our products for your problems."

  8. It'll be best to upgrade the memory to 4GB (2x2GB) based on the price. For $79 for the DDR2 800 , its not as bad this year compared to last when I bought 2x1GB for $95 where it is now $25 after rebate. Best to check around on Newegg for prices.

  9. I've heard that last month, Verizon released the 7.1Mbps/768Kbps package to 1.2 million customers over 12 states. Does anyone have it right now and had been an existing customer? I've only heard of people using it as a trial basis then push back to the 3Mbps afterwards.  Is there a website I can go to where I can see whether or not I qualify for the 7.1Mbps package? The regular Verizon website doesn't have that information on the 7.1Mbps package.

  10. Ok  because I was gonna try out 3GB of memory playing Command and Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath.  I played Tiberium Wars with 2GB and it works fine but Kane's Wrath causes my computer to freeze up and locks up and they both have the same minimum and required standards to run the game.

Windows XP or Vista:   I have XP

Installed:  In order to run Kane's Wrath, Tiberium Wars have to be installed first

    CPU: Intel P4 2.2GHz/ AMD Athlon 2000+ for XP  :  I have AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+

    RAM: 512MB minimum (1GB Recommended) : I have 2GB of DDR2 800 and a spare stick of 1GB of DDR2 667

    DVD Drive Installed : Yes

Hard Drive:  6.3GB must be free space.  I have over 90GB Free Space.

    Sound Card: Yes

Video Card: Directx 9.0c compatible with minimum of GeForce 6100 : Yes.  I have the MSI NVIDIA GeForce 8500 256MB GDDR3 OverClocked.

I have it set at the default  600MHz core speed   1200MHz Memory clock speed.

The thing is   it works with this setting on Tiberium Wars but not Kane's Wrath. Once into a mission after a few minutes,  the computer locks up.

    Any ideas?

:Edit:  Kane's Wrath is the expansion pack to Tiberium Wars

  11. Not a key difference with RC2  just that  RC1 is 336MB and RC2 is about 315MB.  RC2 fixes any bug problems reported with RC1 and just corrects them.

One key difference is   SP3 works well with Server 2008 as  SP2 works well with Server 2003. Go Figure.

One problem though:  SP3 will only work as of right now until further notice only on 32-bit Windows. So if you have Windows XP 64-bit SP2, it will only install it at 32-bit.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Roll Up the Updates

SP3 rolls up all previously-released updates into a single package. Microsoft's documentation for SP3 highlights just a few you might have missed (but your system administrator probably didn't):

    Microsoft Management Console 3.0 (KB907265)

Microsoft XML 6.0 Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 (KB907265)

BITS 2.5, a service used by Windows Live OneCare and Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 (KB923845)

WPA2 Wi-Fi Security, the strongest form of WPA security (KB893357

Peer Name Resolution Protocol 2.1, to enable XP SP3 programs that use PNRP to communicate with Vista programs that use PNRP (KB920342)

Other bundled updates include changes to IPSec virtual private networking and a new service for logging into domains (DIMS).

    SP1 Users, Rejoice! SP3 Includes SP2 (and SP1)!

Windows XP SP3 includes both SP1 and SP2, so if your system's been under a rock and missed SP2 (or if you're doing a fresh install from an original Windows XP or XP SP1 disc), you can install SP3 anyway. However, you must have SP1 installed to use SP3.

Here's What New in SP3 (Not a Whole Lot, to Be Honest)

SP3 adds the following new features:

"Black Hole" router detection is enabled by default

Support for Network Access Protection (NAP), a feature in Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008

The Security Options dialog in Control Panel now includes an "Explain This Setting" tab to help keep you from making security setting goofs.

Enhanced security for Administrator and Service policy entries in System Center Essentials

    New kernel mode Cryptographic driver

No product key needed for SP3 installation; it's requested after installation

Microsoft's been warning XP SP2 users that SP3 wasn't going to include a lot of new functionality - and they were right. Most of the changes in SP3 are not going to be visible to end-users.

    I've Got XP x64! Where's My Update?

Windows XP SP3 is for 32-bit versions of Windows only. x64 users should install Windows Server 2003 SP2, which has been around awhile (over a year, in fact).

  12. a few  differences as RC1(Build 3241 and 3264) and RC2(Build 3300) both add on to what Vista already supports as an OS:  Multiple Processors. The more cores to the processor, the faster the processing, startup and shut down.

Windows XP SP3 Release Candidate offers a number of enhancements over the current version of the OS. It includes all updates issued since Windows XP Service Pack 2 was released in 2004, and some new elements. Among them: A feature called Network Access Protection that

  13. Beta Tester here. I have tried it since its release and I have a huge difference on how it stacks up against 2.0 and the original  gran paradiso alpha phases and also beta 1 and 2. The only problem that it does not let you do is on inital startup  where you can open up as many tabs as you want  instead of  it crashing and going back to the last pages viewed.

Speaking about crashing, since Tuesday, Firefox 3 Beta 3 have not suddenly shut down at all  as it does not  take tons of memory  and slows down your machine with just 1 window open.

As for the long run,  expect Firefox 3 Beta 4 to come out in about 2-3 weeks  and then that will be the last of the Beta as it will jump into RC1 and RC2 before making it official by May or June.

I have been testing Beta programs for several months as I have been reporting errors  whenever I get any. Windows XP SP3 RC2 is my latest  and I only have 1 problem where IE6 doesn't work well with our network with SP3 but works well with SP2,SP1,and SP0

  14. I have the Verizon 3Mbps/768Kbps package and I know my speeds may look ok but what my connection is doing is killing off my home phone.  I can not make a phone call out or receive a phone call without unplugging the modem. The home phone is hooked up with the DSL Modem at a 2 way splitter in the wall jack with a DSL Filter on the phone.

But what is the shocker is..

Transceiver Information    Down Stream Path      Up Stream Path

    DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec)            3360                          800

    Margin (dB)                              6.5                          10.0

    Line Attenuation (dB)                46.5                          31.0

    Transmit Power (dBm)              19.0                          11.8

As you can see, I have 3 big problems

The Noise Margin    6.5 and 10 are far off from where they're suppose to be at. Both numbers should  be 20 or higher. This problem is causing me to lose quality in phone calls.

The Line Attenuation  31.0 is very good  but the 46.5 is border-line between good and poor as it goes sometimes in the 50s and other times stay in the 40s  the higher the number, the bigger the chance I will lose connection.

Transit Power is a huge reason on maybe why I'm experiencing those 2 problems.  11.8 is good but 19.0 for downstream should never in a way be that high. Once it reaches 15db, you can only determine that there is something wrong with the line.

As the provisions say on my modem, 3360/800 is really where I should be or higher. A Verizon Technical Support Rep tested my line and found that the 2781Kbps I'm receiving now.. its only 66% of my download speed  and  652Kbps upload is 97% of my upload speed.  So my download is taking a beating as well as my home phone.

A technican is suppose to be at my house today to test out my line for breaks.  If you have any opinions or a same case scenerio, please voice your opinions.

  15. Ok. I have been having problems since Sunday on my internet connection drops like a rock  then after a few hours   goes fast again  then drops again.  I had been experiencing my downloading as 225Kbps but my upload is stable at around 680Kbps all the time.

Uploading  Atten:     31.0 dB   Downloading Atten:     46.0 dB

    Line Attenuation

Measure of how much the signal has degraded between the DSLAM and the modem. Maximum signal loss recommendation is usually about 60dB. The lower the dB the better for this measurement.

    20dB and below is outstanding

    20dB-30dB is excellent

    30dB-40dB is very good

    40dB-50dB is good

50dB-60dB is poor and may experience connectivity issues

60dB or above is bad and will experience connectivity issues

    THU JAN 24 04:38:42 2008

Uploading  Margin:     10.0 dB   Downloading Margin:     12.0 dB

SN Margin (AKA Signal to Noise Margin or Signal to Noise Ratio)

Relative strength of the DSL signal to Noise ratio. 6dB is the lowest dB manufactures specify for modem to be able to synch. In some instances interleaving can help raise the noise margin to an acceptable level. The higher the number the better for this measurement.

6dB or below is bad and will experience no synch or intermittent synch problems

7dB-10dB is fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions

11dB-20dB is good with no synch problems

    20dB-28dB is excellent

    29dB or above is outstanding

    THU JAN 24 04:38:42 2008

Uploading Tx Power:     11.9 dB    Downloading Tx Power:     18.8 dB

    TX Power

How much power modem (upstream) or DSLAM (downstream) is using. Maximum recommended is about 15dB. The lower the power the better for this measurement.

When my download rises  my upload sinks.   I have finally been told after years and years of kind customer service from Verizon that my line for the DSL has been bad and by their readings   its been bad for years and no one told me about this till now. The representative have arranged me to schedule a technican to come out and install a new telephone line from outside in  so that their is no interferance with anything. I have readings that no DSL customer should have on their line and by their system it is 2-6 times as much interference than what a typical DSL customer should have. Verizon and myself have been going through rough times but eventually  they have sticked to their side of the offer and have been willing enough to fix any problems  I have experience.

I had  scheduled a tech to come out friday morning and once the job is finished, I will be having speeds between 4 and 4.5Mbps download and 850Kbps upload   although the advertised speed suppose to be only 3Mbps download and 768Kbps upload.

From what the representative said, I am only receiving  64% of my download speed and 97% of my upload  meaning my upload is fine (when it gets fixed and gets its head out of its *** LOL) but figuring 64% is 2.8Mpbs  so  once the job is finished,  I will be at the speed noted above.

I happened to just noticed that if I go to Verizon's Speed Test site, it is giving me 675Kbps upload which seems weird by on here.

  16. there isn't a CD yet with SP3 on it. Earliest sale of Windows XP SP3 will be around March but you can slipstream  Windows XP and just add SP3 in the installation so it will make a whole new copy of XP with SP3. What I like about slipstreaming is that you can be able to auto enter any information. e.g. Product Key among other things to speed up the process.

    http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp2_cd.htm

Just follow all the information but change all the SP2 stuff in the tutorial to SP3.

  17. WMP10 works good for me with SP3!

With me, I had 9 loaded on it and I wanted to update to 10 and it says that its incompatible.

It possibly looks at your current version as 10 and says that its 10  but its upgrade is 11. For mine  which is 9  when it goes to 10  it doesn't work since its not an upgrade for SP3 if it is 9 now. So I had to download and install 11.
