  1. I have had the 1.1.1.1 software until this last week. I don't know if it has been a coincidence, but a lot of Comcast trucks have been in my neighborhood the last couple weeks. I still get the same speeds, 9M and up, and 650K and up. They told me some weeks ago there are big updates coming to our equipment, they told me that when I asked at the local office as to when we might get the Comcast digital phone in our area. Hopfully they are starting that work. Software Version: SB5100-2.3.2.5-SCM01-NOSH Hardware Version: 1 MIB Version: II GUI Version: 1.0 VxWorks Version: 5.4 Later, FredEx
  2. I don't know what is up, but I get up and down results on here anymore. I just fired up Linux on my desktop which I have not ever used on here and I have not used in a long time anyway. After I post what I got on here I'll try SpeakEasy...I just got: :::.. 3. My bro-in-law is near Dallas and has Comcast and uses Vonage and loves it. He keeps trying to get me to change, but I'm happy with who I have at just $10 more than he pays and it isn't taking up any net bandwidth. I'll go to CDV when it comes.
  4. My last post here is missing, had more slow tests here I posted about, yet good via other sites and FTP. Just got this one today though: :::.. 5. Anybody ever get slow speeds on here when everywhere else lkooks great? Every once in a while I have, like tonight and I'm running wired. I've been testing at 3400 to about 4000 on here, yet on other sites it shows great speeds all over the country tonight. I did FTP downloads and got 1120 to 1460 kB/s on 64 meg to 256 meg downloads on several occasions. I've seen this happen before. Also have had it spitting up garbage text on the screen when testing on here before it finishes tonight. Firefox, IE6 and 7.
  6. I WANNA GO HOME!!!!!! I'm at a neighbor's house and doing wireless to my router...I'm maybe 200 feet from my router and I don't like the speed. I'm averaging over 6 tests about 4900Kbps. At home it would be double.
  7. From the FTP site posted it was hanging at about 1100 and then took a dive and creeped back up to 910 at the end. I'm not getting the same outrageous speeds tonight on here, 8200 to 9800 is where they have been, so still fast. To a couple sites that are always lower I got 7400ish. Atlanta is one, and even back in my dial-up days and my ISP was based in Atlanta, I'd see the worst performance to there from where I am. The other was Seattle. Chicago is still smoking though: Download Speed: 12258 kbps (1532.3 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 712 kbps (89 KB/sec transfer rate) I used to work over in the Chicago suburbs for a business computer company and called a friend and had him put a file on the work FTP in downtown Chicago, he put up a 396 M file. I ended at 1489 getting it and once it dropped from the 1700+ start it stayed about 1480 the whole download.
  8. I've continued testing and have been way up there, but gotten a couple bad (compared to the others) rates that brought the average down via testmy.net, but via SpeakEasy it is consistantly way up. Everytime I flush everything. The last couple to Chicago via SpeakEasy are wild: Last Result: Download Speed: 12554 kbps (1569.3 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 713 kbps (89.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

Here is Speakeasy to Chicago...wireless: Download Speed: 9831 kbps (1228.9 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 701 kbps (87.6 KB/sec transfer rate) There are Comcast trucks all over town today working on stuff. SBC/The New ATT has had their trucks out working all over town too, but that has been going on for a couple weeks now. Yesterday it seemed I could not go 10 blocks without seeing another SBC/The New ATT truck and guys working on something. Maybe a showdown coming to town.
  15. Thanks. I tore into my router and did some resoldering on some spots that looked like cold solder joints. In my 30 years of being in electronics as a career I have seen where time and thermal cycling may cause some marginal soldering jobs to fail a long time from when the work was first done. I wasn't expecting that in the router, but that is what I found. I put the router back together and set-up a wide open wireless setting on the router and I connected right away. I could connect before, the issue was getting to the WAN side. I tried and IT WORKED! My connection on the net is slow, but I had to reload XP on my laptop. Short story as to why the reload: I was away for a couple days, I came back and my sister had visted my mother who lives with myself and my wife...sis wanted to show mom a new game on the net, used the laptop. You may have guessed it, MALWARE/TROJAN! I found the stuff I had on the laptop didn't do well at preventing it. It looks to have been the latest and greatest with no name yet. Adaware, Spybot, Microsoft's Anti Spyware Beta and AVG (registered) barely saw anything. I got PC Tools Anti Spyware and it cleaned out a mess of stuff, Panda Titanium caught a lot more. They basically cleaned up the system, but I had a NT Authority shutdown happening when I'd get an error with services.exe and connected to the net. It appeared that services.exe had been comprimised and the only way to fix it was to do a reinstall on top of the existing XP. With the reinstall that wiped out all my system/OS tweaks. Wireless and cable connects are half-fast right now. I used a friend's tweaked laptop to test my routers wireless and the 9M speeds happen with his, so I have to get to tweaking to get my half-fast connections back up to speed. A 3/4 half-fast wireless connect now (hopfully in the next day or so I can post a 9M area test): :::.. 16. My Linksys WRT54GS wireless router broke, so I'm tehered for a little while. I contacted Linksys and what is weird is I can connect, get a great connect, but I can not do anything on the WAN side. Ethernet works perfectly as you will see in a bit. On wireless I can ping my desktop via LAN, but can not ping anything on the WAN. Something died inside the router. Different firmware, many resets, all the channels and a gazillion set-ups to no security to full tilt would not work. Finally I got my mom-in-laws laptop and put in a card and the same issue. I even dug up a b Cisco card and tried that and same result, I connect, but nothing to the WAN side. I was wanting to go Gig on the LAN anyway, just had not planned to do that for a few months. I've been playing around with some wireless stuff with friends and hurt my speed on wireless for a while from this laptop, but I'm done working on that stuff and back to about normal. 21. I'd ask the same thing as Deerkill, have you used an ethernet wired connect to check the laptop speed? If it is still slow you need to figure out what the hold-up is. Maybe you need to follow the tweaks stickied in this forum. If all is okay, then I'd do as Pitbull suggests and go to G. I was just reading on the Comcast internal forums where a guy went round and round trying to get his B to get him his 4M d/l speed, but it never happened. He got a G capable router and he hit 4M. The ratings on routers are ideal conditions, don't ever count on having ideal conditions, especially with wireless. I have the same router Pitbull has, the WRT54GS and to get max speed on my 8M account I did a lot of playing around with settings, including entering IP, Gateway and DNS numbers, not counting on them to be resolved. Finally what got me up to speed as good as wired was getting the hy-gain antennas and using a third party router firmware so I could crank up the routers transmit power. Now, not all folks may have to do all that, but most have to tweak to get wired speed on wireless and some never quite get there. With wireless you need a lot of overhead to get what you want.

I had to reboot my tower, so I also cycled the router and modem. Much to my surprise the laptop could not get a wireless connect. Being a tad out of it (I have a cold and have had very little sleep) I forgot I had entered IP, Gateway and DNS numbers on my wireless set-up on the laptop. With the reboot of the modem I eventually discovered the DNS servers had changed. I set everything back to Auto and got a wireless connect, but the speed was slowish, 3 to 4 meg. I turned off the obtain whatever automatically and entered in the new numbers and my speed came back up. Lookin' even a tad faster.
