Maybe they are testing in Niles, MI or tweaking. I came on here and before logging in had 8M + and went to three other places to test and their results are below. I lived in the Schaumburg and Palatine areas a few years while working for Motorola on Algonquin Rd and left to work for a computer company. Came back to Michigan when the computer center I worked for closed.

Had my speed at 3:00 AM drop to the 4M speed. Called Comcast and they said that is what I'm paying for. Wrong! Been paying the network level since it was made available. I was sent to sales and the dude there said he could see that I have been paying for the higher speed. He changed it right away. All we could figure is since I had a digital cable box switched out for a DVR Monday, that it somehow triggered the down grade in speed. It did not happen until 3:00 AM this morning though, but that is the best explanation. Still no upgrade to the newer speeds, but back to the 6M level. :::.. Got my DVR. Tech said they at his level are often kept in the dark about when speed upgrades will happen until it happens.

I'm in southwestern Michigan, just 3 miles from Indiana. I'm on the 6/768 plan. In the very early AM of August 2nd, about 2:00 AM, my net service was down about a half hour. When it happens about that time of night they are usually doing upgrades and something good happens in the next few days. I hope it means I'll be getting 8 Mb very soon. Just did a power cycle and still getting about 6.4 Mb.

Thanks for the welcome. Wish I'd of found this site long ago. My speeds stay pretty consistent. Ran the tests again and just about the same as before. I'm on a laptop right now and using an ethernet connection to get maximum speed. I can do wireless G via my Linksys WRT54GS router, but my download speeds get cut in half running encrypted most of the time. Wired it stays full tilt.

I have had issues with cable TV service and they have given me credit the last few times.

New here, so thought I'd toss in my results in southwestern Michigan. I've been very happy with the service. One fluke when the upgrade went to 4 Mb, it was flakey, but they had it fixed in a few days. They stopped by and swapped my RCA for a Motorola as the tech explained where the problem was...a routing issue causing a bottleneck over near Chicago.
