      Ok so I just got my first bank account yesterday!!! I wanted to use for online payments!!! But I need some help see I have had a paypal account for awhile but I never had a bank account linked to it! So I went to paypal and linked it to my account and well it said it sent two payments to verify I was the owner of the account :shock: :shock: :shock:!!!  Well I am wanting to know if I am going to get charged for those transfers like a wire transfer :shock: :shock: :shock:?  I don't want that I was told paypal was free so I did it but then I check and it said on my bank account that it was 5 dollar charge for incoming wire transfers!!!???? Do you think what I did was considered a wire transfer???????? Thanks!!! I mean say I was to donate to cable and use paypal would my bank charge me a wire fee please help thanks!!!!

    When you open a Pay Pal account and it is going to a bank account they make two transactions to make sure its a valid account and you are who you say you are!!!!!!!!.....The first transactions is a small withdrawal for less than a buck!!!!!!!, the next transaction is a deposit ....to return the money they took!!!!!!!!.....and to finish the deal they ask you what and how much the transactions were for!!!!!!....... But I am a little confused how did you use a Pay Pal account b4 without a bank account????? Just curious !!!!!!!

    Vanny needs no defending here. His work in here speaks for itself, we all know that. This man/woman, who has built hundreds of pc's, wires his own house in the boonies(hey I saw you in Deliverence), worked for comcast blah blah blah is entitled to his opinion.

    :haha:  Well I just got a ticket recently for flying, so I cant say anything ....L0L and I'm an old fart....... but I still do like to put the pedal to the metal .....sometimes....... I think when that stops I'll be ready to get planted.....but it pisses me off all the money they charge for these tickets.....they are the real thieves.....  :-P

    Sounds to me like the typical XP corrupted winsock. A common problem these days on this OS. It is caused by many issues ranging from incompatible software to an incomplete or bad install. Some firewall installs are reported to be at fault as well.

    Try this winsock fix, it has worked for me on a few machines at work:

    Good call many times ppl have a winsock issue and are not aware of it, it can be tricky to ID,there are a couple of good fixes on the net as you pointed out.... applaud.....Oh sorry we dont use them anymore....L0L but really thats nice of you to point that out.... :) I have also used and like trhis one the best....plus its very easy to use..

    Well seems kinda like a bandaid when you probably have systemwide issues you need to correct,

    A properly set up system (clean) should never need a "tweak" to get  normal bw out of a modem.

    But if it helps the novices more power to em...

    ;) I think it may be important to point out that you are giving your opinion which I find wrong, and of course there are many others that will also disagree with you. In the past week I setup one brand new system from the factory and by "tweaking" increased the speed by about 30%, the next system was a laptop by Sony after a format and clean install the speed was almost doubled, the third system after format and clean install ((XP)) speed was tested and noted after some simple tweaks the speed was over doubled........of course if you look back to the very beginning of this forum you will see many times when my own computer's speed was also over doubled by tweaks.....are you really saying that an RWIN value of 17xxx ( on an XP from a one size fits all idea) is as fast as an RWIN value of 64xxx up to 256xxx ? if you are I find it strange that you could believe this....but of course you are allowed to your opinion even though the majority of ppl will disagree with you.....  are you now in defense of your incorrect statement also call me a novice???  Or is the real  truth that you just enjoy being disagreeable with members of this forum???? If I may offer a suggestion if  the info being given out on this site is not to your liking it may better serve you to start your own testing and help site, certainly a seasoned tech with over ten years of experience could make a site that could be useful to many ppl just like yourself....... I humbly await your esteemed responce, even though I know there is not a valid argument against what I have said that will not stop you.....

    :haha:  Yeah it was strange that we thought that was fast, I did a lot of pgm of phone systems over dial^ at the time , 4me it was a good thing that it was so slow....... I was getting paid by the hour. It was kinda cool because I was able to do a good deal of "work" from home , that is as long as the modem answered and the capture switch for the line was in the correct position..... L0L

    If I remember this is your first laptop? I think for the money and it looks like you get a free printer that its a good deal, as I'm sure some ppl might say there are better and worse than this puter, to me whats important is that its within your budget and that YOU like it. If its possible you might take it for a test drive, laptops have come a long way in the last few years and it looks like it has a good warranty, of course it only a 60 gig HD but your not gonna store stuff on it anyway, so good luck and see what others think..... :)

    ;) If your friend did in fact get one of these "Free" ipods its only because a number of ppl (i doubt its 5) filled out the forms and bought something or paid for shipping or some other bait and switch deal....     Oh yea... Trial-By-Fire ~~ only way to learn..... this is how I have learned everything on computers, I break it and have to put it back together  :angry3:

    ;) Yep only way to learn, years back there were not ppl to fix them so it stayed broken until the owner did it, also we needed and used them at work and got paid 2learn or actually was given all the time we wanted or needed..... I have taken more than one machine that worked fine and nuked it just messing around and then spent hours fixing... :)
