Also I thought dual core was for gamers.

If there was a website where you could walk through the build process with explanations as to what would work for certain situations, and what was necessary to complete a build so beginning builders could do it with less questions, and not miss any key components. If there are none then someone could make some money doing this. I like newegg but they don't have that part, if they do please let me know where to look it up. You know like house blueprints.

I guess I should also mention what I already have. Emachines t6522. AMDAthlon 64,3500+,2.2GHz, 512 KB L2 Cache, MHz FSB, 200GB Hard Drive ATI Radeon 9250(not expressPCI), 2048RAM, Dual Channel, XP  Home edition, no router. I don't know maybe thats as good as it gets in my situation, I like everyone else am always hoping for a little bit more. Any more suggestions would be helpful. Good ones so far.I also prefer desktop for maintenance and bang for buck. Thanks.

My apologies for sounding like I was ditching on games. I just meant that with all the gamers that my not being interested in

a game machine my be boring to you all.   

  Mainly I guess I meant that a friend suggested that high ram, large processor, low hard drive will speed things up a bit. Unfortunately my first two PC's were store bought. The second being a media center thinking that was the only way to get any kind of speed. I live in the boonies 5 miles from any cable civilization. Most people would probably say go to the pro account but I am afraid I will not be as successful with it as I have with my consumer account. I am getting average 1300 with 2992 connection speed.  Most people say that is over cap on dway 6000 consumer. I am afraid I will be paying more for no more power and an extended 15 month sentence.

So I figured if I built a surfing hotrod, if I could ever got a better connection maybe I would at least be able to use the faster computer to it's fullest advantage, and for now at least maybe I could at least maybe speed up dway a little bot right now.

  I would try the 7000 but everybody talks about download increasing speed, no interest there. So there is my situation. Again sorry if i upset any gamers. Used to be one myself. Just that I have small children my self now. And things change.Just get tired of spending all hours researching different on internet.

  Like I told one friend if I could get good cable I would stop tweaking and just enjoy speedy service and the fact that I now know how to keep a computer at full operating efficiency thanks to the knowledgeable folks at test my.net.

At first I came to check speeds. Then came to fix speeds. Now like a good book! Just hate to put it down. Besides where can you go to talk to people that don't look at you and say have you got any thing else to talk about. It's a good hobby and it keeps me off the streets at night. :haha:

Besides my computer is running better than ever. And it is more fun being on it.

Maybe after looking at my stats I am more addicted than I thought.

What about a garage sale very small window A/C, inside a home built box with ductwork leading to inlet of case. A/C is actually a dehumidifier. Box with filter ($.59 furnace filter) for clean air to A/C inlet on box. Under $100 with used plywood (can always find some laying around somewhere). But must have some type of temperature control. Westinghouse where I used to work had to keep temperature and humidity control in some shop rooms to build some components.

I don't know anything about the Rev. except on this forum. My bord is AMC9 according to the tech. Signal strength 64. Was told oversold like the rest some time ago.

Personally I would never go into a forum where there are this many issues with my company and jump right into the lions ring stating who I was. Takes guts.

This is the Rev's settings I was talking about. Plain and simple. Probably does fit in anybodies calculations but it is that simple. Too much of a simple user to do much else. Anyway 1151 down at 2992 at 11:00 pm.

  Like I told Fikester I believe it was I have nothing but a normal emachines comp with the Rev's settings, no cable nut settings no registry settings(nervous about going in there. To be specific the SG optimizer settings. Actually before I did the system recovery a couple off  days ago I was unsure of whether or not the settings would stick or not. But come to find out I had not used the reverands settings correctly anyway. But this time I did it right and found out that I was downloading about 800 and slowing down as each hour was going by. Finally I gave tech support a jingle, with her help I was only downloading about 235,247, and 295. We did a computer reconfigure and rebooted. Turned off firewall and AVG , downloads increased to 711, turned on AVG downloads to 813, firewall on 822. Said goodbye and cleaned cookies and files and cleared history, 833.

  Everything was systems go. :haha: ;)

  Back to testmy.net and here they are clean and simple. So sometimes the simple things in life are just that. Now some of you may think this a little wierd but the Rev. did say to say a little prayer and go. It worked. Now I did not set my latency pings to direcway because they do not need to know!!

I have been getting it every time on opening page only, for the last 3 days now,on IE. Already left a message with Cable.

   For some of us simple users you might take out some of the abbreviations and say it in plain english. Please!  Tom

:oops:So far I don't seem to have had a decent suggestion so far due to my little knowledge of computers. But hopefully this  one will rate at least an o.k. My geek friend was helping me to eliminate my wimpy Norton Anti-Virus and told me to go to Grisoft for their's  and I naturally got lost in the website which is usually pretty good because I usually find some interesting stuff. This particular item was called vcleaner.On Grisoft's opening page in search box type vcleaner in there and download onto a c.d. Reason to download it instead is because (it states) that you need to rename it so the virus won't be able to play hide and go seek with it. Meaning i could not find when I got in safe-mode. So old horse sense told me maybe I could pull it off of the c.d. drive. Wham it worked. Don't actually get to see it do anything but run,it always says it did not find anything. But things stop acting weird after using it. By the way it says to run AVG free in normal windows with internet off to do final cleanup. Probably any virus program will do. Always works for me. Maybe it will deep clean for you too. Replies would be welcome to know it worked for someone else also. Worked for other friends also.  By the way they say never to have two virus cleaners on same machine. Maybe because it works in safe-mode, I don't know. Good luck
