  1. My buddy recently bought a gateway with built in wireless, they are running B now. The Gateway runs slow as dog poo and sporadic, but his brothers computer runs flawlessly(HP) on wireless in any point in the house.

you plug the gateway in to wired and it flies.

I checked all settings and such but to no avail.  I think they were running on wireless channel 6, then i had them switch to 11...but it didn't change anything.

They don't want to change routers yet cause they are going to be moving and they will prolly just get a N with all the bells and whistles, but for now why isn't it working? i am thinking about having him come over here and link to my wireless G and see what happens.

  3. for the last week or 2 i have had issues with not being able to get online...i know it's the computer cuz the modem and router are still online(wireless pc is fine), new nic card, new cables......ie6 and maxthon(ie6 sister won't work) yim, and aim come up sometimes when the ie6 don't work...computer friend said to use a reg fix that he put on the computer when he was going over it, and then to do winsock fix...ok no workie.BUT THE KICKER....i can pull up aol 8.0 get on the net like nothing is wrong.. pull up the browser and i can surf and do anything, but doesn't aol use ie6 lol.....help please.here are the fixes i have done per pc buddies advice.

new nic card, cat5 cables, modem and router are working. net is working.....

tried to re-install ie6 but when i tried it said it already had the newest version and the installation was cancelled.

did the reg thing and the winsock fix, uninstalled the ethercard, and rebooted...nothing......

went to the trouble of reinstalling sp2....still didn't work right after that or after a few reboots...oh yeah and before the sp2 trial, i tried to go to system restore in the system tools, and went back 3 days when the pc worked great...NOPE.

I left the computer on but i left it at the screen where you have to enter your username and pw, which is the default one for windows. left for about 4 hours and came back, pressed enter and it pulled up all the programs like normal....BAM yim, aim, and ie6 is working.

CAN anyone explain this, and help me figure out the problem?

    thanks testmy.net

  4. I have tried both the cablenut tweaks, and factory settings....

i have scanned for all kinds of virus's, spyware......using  ms antivirus, spybot, adaware, avg, avast.

I have aim and yahoo up...avg is up, and i am surfing with maxthon, but it happens with explorer....

the pages take a while to load, not along time, but it should be like RIGHT THERE.

    Any tips?

btw the cookies and files are all cleared.

  5. well i have default settings now. it has been booting me offline, I figure ok lets get off the onboard nic card, so  i put in a pci nic card. speeds are horrible now WTF..... ping is this

  6. Well i don't really think it's a BUREN tweak i was just wondering.

if I set back to default and then to a buren tweak it should ok right

but if I go do a custom tweak? and not like it, then goto BUREN tweak it should be the same as resetting to default right?

  7. I think i have narrowed the problem of my connection down to my pc.....router elim'd it was still kicking me offline.....i woud have to reboot the pc like 2 times and cycle the modem.....i have scanned with AVG.ms antivirus......spybot, adaware. they found nothing. I just installed AVAST and it's scanning now.

could one of the BUREN tweaks be causing this issue? I ALSO tried doing a custom tweak through that one link he has, but found it was worse than the burens, so i went back to it, restarted and all.

now could something be screwing with my nic card allowing it to cut the internet access or something, cuz that i wut is happening, aim goes offline, yahoo goes offline. my yahoo games cuts out, and i close the MAXTHON IE and it won't come back and let meonline.

    any help..

i tried installed trendmicr's online scan but all it tells me is transferring data now...they must have changed something with their site?

    any help

    thanks guys.

    what's wrong?

internet kicked me off so I had to reboot, i took the router out of the line. and when i rebooted i was watching my processes and seen cam studios, EXPLORE.exe..searched on yahoo  and it's a virus....i renamed it and the extention. rebooted, deleted and now it's gone.

doubt that was the issue, ISP is coming out again today to see what is wrong, cuz when i woke up this morning it was offline!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was connected to the router then.......GEEK SQUAD came out and set up the wireless internet as well we the wep and something else i think. they were never over here at my computer, he did it all through his PDA and the wireless computer he said......COULD SOMETHING HE HAVE DONE SCREWED WITH THE ROUTER ENOUGH TO DO THIS HARM? To where the router kicks you offline, and gives you terrible pings and traces?

    just asking.

ISP will be here anywhere from 12-5 so I don't know.

  13. well i'm waiting for the check.bat to end the traceroute check, its' been 2 or 3 minutes lol.

the computer i am testing is wired

through a rca dcm modem, router is linksys wrt54gs version 1 with speedbooster, firmware is upgraded to 4.07 something.

  14. Tech just left.

he got on some site to monitor the modem, something about nemos.adelphia or something....I was way in the green for the signal and such.

he tested the line with a handheld thing lol, and i was getting -5.0 db which is great he said.......i am about 300 ft from the drop so I think we are doing great.

but he got here and did the ping test and 10 sent 10 came back good.

i ran tests and it was working like normal? wtf.

I ran tests after he left(as he was leaving the driveway) and I was getting 7004-6900-6200-6400 from, pitstop, dslreports, testmy, speakeasy, performance.buckeye-express.com, so I used several different ones, and the only one that hung up during testing was testmy.net it hung at about 14% and then speed along, i retested and same thing, went to different site test good, back to testmy and it's good.

could it be a software issue?
