First, if you don't plan on adding value to conversation... leave. Simple posts saying "hi" that contain no true value to the forum may be seen as spam and removed. Tell us something worth typing... share your speed, share your experience or tell me what you think of what I've built. As long as you're a real person posting real content you have nothing to worry about. Bots on the other hand don't last long here. We'd love to have you introduce yourself as a new member, so please click here to make a post to the New Members board that you're currently in. That way we can all give you a warm welcome and answer any questions you may have. But please, if you have a question about your system, connection or any computer related question please make those posts in the board that suits the topic best. If you don't know where your topic should go just post it to General Discussion and one of us will point the topic in the right direction for ya. To see a list of the boards you should make your posts to all you need to do is go to the Forum Default Page. Make sure you take note of the sub-forums that are with-in some of the forums. These sub-forums can sometimes give you more specific help. HAVE FUN DAMN IT! Most importantly... enjoy yourself here, this community is full of not only helpful self proclaimed (and proud of it) computer nerds it's also full of people having a great time! Many people become addicted to our forums so I'd just like to warn you... you may be with us till the day you die, but at least you'll make a ton of really kick ass friends along the way. - Damon

nite brotha edit: yet another good post... I have had 100% success since I rebuilt apache, I changed to apache 2.0 (down from apache 2.2) and still using the latest php (PHP Version 5.2.5). One thing that I did in this latest build that I think may have made the major impact was the removal of eAccelerator. I think that was what was hanging things up. mySQL in itself is running quite efficient, now using the cnf located at /usr/share/mysql/my-huge.cnf --- it's the configuration settings that are reccommended for systems that run heavy mySQL (or all mySQL) and that have over 1-2GB of memory... My server meets all that criteria so that's what I'm running, one thing that draws a ton of queries from mySQL is the score images... with those posted on thousands of websites all over the net my database gets hit thousands of times every second, lol. It takes a shit load of optimization to be able to serve all those queries without crashing the server, I must of done a pretty damn good job with the database work since I've had server uptimes that run into months upon months without a single reboot. Although I do have cron's that reboot individual services on a scheduled basis which I'm sure add heavily to the stability of the server. All I know is that this site would be impossible to host on a shared host, nearly everything on the site requires some sort of custom server software in order to work (like the spell check in the forum for instance... requires the Pspell library for apache/php ... so oh well.. I guess we're stuck with dedicated servers forever, awwww shucks, that's too bad. bah ha ha. ttyl, -D

very quick Page created in 0.094 seconds with 19 queries.
-
good for me also... hope it sticks this time
-
man, are you sure about that.. I've made a BUNCH of posts with no slow down, running very smooth for me.
-
really... are you kidding me? posting fine for me... but I haven't finished with all the stuff I'm working on. After my last apache rebuild the compiler messed up the httpd.conf lines for TMN and the site was down... while it was building I went up to Jack in the Box and got some food and I didn't notice the site was down until I was done eating.. DOH! -- sorry about that guys anyways, I'm still working... but I just made a butt load of posts and didn't see even one error.... but I'll keep workin'

I just made all those test posts and not even one lagged for me... let me know if you guys see that problem again. -D

I'm going to rebuild apache and PHP using the older versions and see if that fixes it...
-
Well, nevermind, it's not just with the quick reply... I just got another hang up... I'm working on it guys, hold tight.
-
it seems to have been a problem with the quick reply... for now (until I fix it) I've reset everyones options to NOT use the quick reply. Options will be reset once I figure out what the heck is making the problem. I do know this.... on this new server I've upgraded to the most recent builds of PHP and Apache, and the problem MAY be a scripting problem that SMF (the author of the code that testmy.net uses for it's forum) needs to fix... some bit of code that isn't compatable with the newest versions of apache or PHP. I do know this much, the posting is instant when quick reply isn't used. And also, when the posts seem to lag with quick reply the posts are actually made instantly... the problem is that the following page is taking forever to load. I know this because while it's lagging you can reload the thread and the post that you've made (that was lagging) is actually posted. If a reload of SMFs code doesn't fix the problem then we may have to wait for the next version of SMF to fix the problem.... and if a reload of SMFs code doesn't fix it I'll be posting to SMFs site letting them know about the problem and seeing if I can get some help over there to script a possible fix. I'll keep you guys informed. If you want to re-enable quick reply you can do so by changing the quick reply option in you look and layout preferences under the profile tab. -D

very nice.... by the way, MY posts have been instant lately, what about you guys? -D
-
okay, changes have been made to the mySQL config, hopefully this setup will fix the problems.... let me know. -D

I'm still working on mySQL to figure out why the posts are taking a long time to process, sometimes they're normal and sometimes they take a long time... I'll get it. --- and at the end of the month I think I may be getting my host to get me another server that's in the datacenter I was normally in... I can't believe I forgot to request them to put me in the same datacenter... every time I get a new server I forget to do that... grrrr. And last time I got a bill for like $1300 because they didn't get my request to turn off the old servers. It was a friggen nightmare bill, lol.
