  1. This is still going on, actually my host put my new server in the wrong datacenter and I didn't notice untill I was seriously minutes from finishing the transfer. But they got ANOTHER server online for me in the right datacenter and it's running MUCH better than the POS they originally set up for me. I'm waiting on a few tasks to finish, then a few final touches and this headache of a transfer will be over with. My ETA for the DNS update is some time tonight, although it may take up to 72 hours for your ISP or your local DNS cache to get the new DNS info telling them where to find the new server --- as I said before, you'll know you're on the new server when you see a nice welcome message on the site index... also, you'll only see one server option. There will be no more 'server 1' 'server 2' deal. Be down to one simple option... only one server but more power. And once needed I'll be switching the server over to a 1Gbps uplink, I've already looked into the option. I'll keep you all posted tonight. Please note that there may be a loss of a few posts durring the couple of minutes it takes for me to make the transfer nearly transparent. tty-ALL-l - Damon
  2. Just to let you guys know, testmy.net is in the middle of a very large server transfer. Over to a more powerful server. If you experience any problems over the next few days just note that these issues are most likely because of the transfer and you need not make any posts about these problems because I'll most likely be working on any of the bugs while you would be writing your post. Though, if you notice any problems AFTER I make the "Welcome to the new server" post (you'll also see a notice on the home page to let you know that you're now on the new server) then please let us know of any problems. I have limited times to make the transfer (unless I want to pay HUGE fees) so please note that I will have no time to respond to PM's and emails until after I've finished the transfer. I've already been in this transfer since the 22nd but now my host has actually gotten the issues with the new server ironed out (they better give me a break on the price! haha)... I just had issue after issue, and this stuff happens every time I get a new server with them, stuff like IP addresses not able to be provisioned. But I got a message from them a little bit ago letting me know that they got the kinks out... so give me a little time to get all the data over and get the new server configured correctly to be able to handle as much traffic as TMN gets and look forward to our new faster server. It has enough power to take over the tasks of the two current servers... See you on the other side - Damon - owner/admin
  3. Happy birthday America!! And everyone have a very safe 4th of july! -Damon
  4. what type of connection do you have? I have a 1Mbit upload and the results I get are right in line with that. :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Upload Connection is:: 889 Kbps about 0.9 Mbps (tested with 1496 kB) Upload Speed is:: 109 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (Server 1) Test Time:: 2007/06/30 - 12:10am Bottom Line:: 16X faster than 56K 1MB Upload in 9.39 sec Tested from a 1496 kB file and took 13.78 seconds to complete Upload Diagnosis:: Awesome! 20% + : 33.08 % faster than the average for host (cox.net) U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-637CEO1IL User Agent:: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.0; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.04506; InfoPath.2) [!] (though I'm running a little slow right now, but that's because there is an upload going on with one of my other computers). Give me some more info about your connection adn who your provider is... and watch out with the mirror results. Those servers are donated and if the persons server is down or having problems your results will be off. I'm in the middle of transfering the site off the two current servers onto one monster server, so after that transfer is done (they just got my server online and I'll be spending the weekend getting everything squared away) you may want to retest. So look for a highly visable notice on the front page talking about this. -D
  5. Wow, that's some pretty nice speed you got there already. What more are you hoping for? What kind of package do you have right now? - also list you system specs so we can better help you. - Damon - site owner/admin
  6. Oh, the servers always break the bank... it takes allot to host a site that's this popular. But I'll actually be saving a few bucks a month going to the one super server instead of the two less powerful servers (that are still really super servers, lol) It looks like the new server is going to be a Dual Intel Woodcrest 5130 Dual Core Processors Hard Drive(s) HDD: Two 250GB SATA RAID Hard Drives 100 Mbps Uplink 2048 MB RAM (I may change this to 4GB, I'll try with 2GB to start though) So it's basically a quad-core system with a shit load of resources. I currently have two Dual XEON 2.8 GHz servers with 1GB ram each and two 80GB drives on each. So this will be a nice upgrade for us and the single server setup will simplify the whole setup. Single server setup was impossible when I ordered the current servers because my host didn't have packages with enough bandwidth to suit our needs. But they now have packages with enough bandwidth and I'm sure in the near future they'll be upgrading the packages (they've been doing that every 6 months or so)... so as our traffic grows and our bandwidth needs go up I'll be okay and won't have to worry about bandwidth overages. I just gave my host the go ahead to get the new server online so look for this nice upgrade in the near future. I'm sure that the already fast page requests will be even faster and overall reliability will go up as well. -D
  7. just to let you guys know, I'm in the middle of ordering a new, more powerful server. I'll be running everything off of one server instead of two (because the newer servers that my host has are powerful enough to do the job of my two servers.. and then some). I should start tranfering data over to the new server over the weekend and it will be tested and configured through the end of the month. Launching before the end of the month. After the new server is online I'll start working on some scripting to get an all new version of the speedtest online. Some exciting changes are around the bend.
  8. The new speedtest score signature is online! Please give thanks to dlewis23 for the artwork. I'm still waiting on the TTF font file to change the words at the top, for right now it will say 'download' on all test types but this will be changed soon. Sorry about the delay getting this online, a nasty (and I mean naaaaasty) stomach flu has been going through my family. But as soon as I was all better (now) I get it online for you guys. If you're already using a signature and want to switch to the new one all you have to do is add the number 2 to the link, see the example below. Original http://www.testmy.net/share-CIQMSON3W&dual=yes&q2=N0P7EMDCZ Change to... http://www.testmy.net/share2-CIQMSON3W&dual=yes&q2=N0P7EMDCZ Notice the number 2 after the word 'share' --- just add that and it will change over. As for people needing new ones, you will see a link at the bottom of the results page that will take you to the creation page, by default it will create your image with the new style. But for those of you that like the old one there is a radio button under a section called "Image Type", you only need to click the bubble that says "testmy.net original" and the script will take care of the rest for you. Enjoy, and let me know if you see any bugs or if you need anything else - Damon P.S. An example of the new version can be seen in my signature below!
  9. DAMN IT! I recoreded the finale tonight, I've been following it since the first episode (i've been watching since last season, I was so pissed that the stupid ass won.. ehhhhh). I've been cheering Jordan Sparks on since the auditions (I knew that she was going to win.. but then again I knew last year that Katharine McPhee was going to win but she came in second... GOD I was pissed off, I was seriously in love with that chick from the first moment I saw/heard her.. and she lost to that pepper haired cerebral palsy mofo..... I'm still mad about those results ... okay, I'm sorry about the cerebral palsy crack, but seriously WTF is wrong with him, and don't say "he has soul." because soul may make you 'get down' but it doesn't make you act like a retard)... SO, I'm pissed because I recorded it on DVR, I go to play it back and the video gets to a part when a bunch of people are singing 'Beatles Sargent Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band' or something and the friggen video stops!!! I'm assuming right before the final results. GRRRRR, I go to the American Idol website and they aren't showing the results yet... it just says "WATCH THE FINALE!" --- I go to Fox's website and the same shit... I try to Google it and nothing. I guess it's just too soon. .. now maybe they showed the results in the middle of the show or something (I played the show in the background while I was doing some work) I fast forwarded and didn't see anything that looked like a results thing and plus it's Americal Idol style to hold out till the last second. BAH! So anyway, can someone clue me in on the winner? Did my girl win or what?!? She better have won because she totally deserved to win, Blake is cool and all but between the two Jordan is a much better singer (though I totally think that Blake is a much better artist and I know that we're going to see some dope ass shit from him in the future... I actually think it would be better for his future career if he didn't win.) WHO WON!?!?! AHHH, damn DVR bug! -D
  10. shout boxes get abused... bad. I've never put one up but I would imagine people would put anything from really bad messages as jokes to ADs for bullshit... I know that if I was trying to scam up some traffic for something less than ledgit I would think about exploiting something like that, especially if the site allowed links in the shoutbox. I've seen them.. I've ran the idea in my mind... but I just don't think it will work out well with as much traffic as the site gets. The more traffic... the more that people want to target you. Thanks for the idea though.. .please keep them coming. -D
  11. wow, I thought mine was awesome.... I'm adding a larger test size in the next 48 hours... once that's added you should test with it and post your score again... look for it, I'll have a notice on the front page when it's online. -This goes for the upload test also, -D
  12. Wow, that day sounded kick ass --- makes me want to go to a game, I haven't been to one in a looooong ass time... too long, always a friggen great time. -D
  13. I just buy everything from NewEgg, even if it's a little more expensive... just to keep all my records on one site, make it easy at the end of the year for my writeoffs, I write off a ton of computer equiptment every year for the site and for computers I've sold.
  14. Oh, I also ran a speed test and actually got the best score I've ever got.. lol, I'm really not seeing the problem you were talking about, lol.
  15. me either.... has anyone had problems besides him? It may be your isp, they may be routing you through some crappy route, like a route that has a piece of bad hardware somewhere in the mix. Problems like this are out of my hands but usually are fixed by the at fault ISP within a week. Paste us your trace, go to [start] then click on 'run' and type CMD (in vista type 'cmd' in the text box on the start menu). Then type... tracert testmy.net after it's finished tracing paste it here... cut and paste in with command console is a little weird, you need to right click and select 'select all' then hit the [enter] key to copy the text... then just paste it here like normal. Could you also do an extended ping for me and paste it here, you will run the command in the command console just like the other command I gave you, the ping command I would like you to run is... ping testmy.net -n 30 also run it on our other server... ping s2.testmy.net -n 30 that command will ping the servers 30 times, depending on what the problem is doing 10 or more pings will usually show major fluctuation if theres a problem somewhere along the line... again, depending on what the problem is. 16. I just sent you a PM, check your inbox and we'll get to the bottom of your problem. The problem is isolated though because you're the only having problems. -D
  17. When I optimize the databases and do my weekly maintenence tonight I'll be weeding out any bad mirrors, sry about that... sometime people take them down and don't tell me. Most of the time they send me a friendly PM though. I have two or three new mirrors to add tonight also. -D
  18. here's an ASUS one that's pretty pimp, I like the heatsink. But I can personally vouche for the ATI one... and the heatsink that's on that one does the job and is very quiet. >> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121049 (ASUS's version of the x1950 pro) -D
  19. Go with ATI !!!! Screw nVidia, personally on my desktop computer I have a Radeon x1950 pro and I've tried to max it out and havn't been able to (unless I use a benchmarking program, games and applications haven't been able to max it out yet). And if that's not enough for you then you can use crossfire to tie two of them together (ATI's version of SLI) but of course you'd need a motherboard that supports that. Here is the one that I own... I highly reccommend it, and for only $220 if you ask me it's a steal, especially since it's name brand >> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814195029
  20. good luck on hitting 27 It's all good, test as much as you need... that's why I never put any cap on how much you can test... but if you're eating that much of my bandwidth I hope you've at least told one person about the site -- haha
  21. this is a cool idea... I wouldn't want to disagree anyhow, I'd get cut off.. hahaha
  22. hey.. how about you guys test from HERE. What are you guys doing? Don't you like testmy.net? -D
  23. I personally like Microsoft's 'Windows Defender' teamed with IE7. It blocks about 99.8% of the popups on all my computers... every now and then one gets through but that will happen with any of those programs. Windows Defender isn't a dedicated popup blocker but it does do that also, along with it's main goal of keeping your computer free of spyware, adware and other threats (if you don't already know it's the final version of the old Microsoft Antispyware... it's just a better and quieter version, meaning it doesn't bug you as much with questions). You can get Windows Defender at Microsoft's website a direct link is at >> http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx (there is a download link on that page... you may want to read more about it on that page also). Note (pirates beware...arrrgh!): You must have a geniune copy of Windows. And as I said, it works best when you team it up with IE7 (Internet Explorer 7). You can of course also get this at Microsoft's website and read more about it at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx -- again, as with most downloads from Micosoft these days you must have a genuine copy of windows or at least a pirated copy that authenticates (I have seen one before, hehe). Just download both of those and use a good antivirus program and you'll be good to go, your computer will run like mine and have nearly NO popups and problems (although I'm using Vista now but before Vista I had it setup with XP and for years I never had any problems... and since Vista it's been more of the same, only difference is that I haven't found a good antivirus program but I'll have one very soon. nJOY! -D
