the reason for all this is... since im the wireless network CARD part user, i only connect half as fast as my grandmas computer (which is expected) so i wanna download stuff on my grandmas computer and then just take it off hers and put it on mine... it will save me about days to a week worth of downloading crap... make it faster and easier. -

Okay... I live with my grandparents. On her computer (w/ microsoft Home for her OS) is a WRT54GS wireless linksys router W/ speed booster.... my room is upstairs i have the WMP54GS wireless card W/ speed booster installed. (with microsoft XP OS) and so we are on a network for the internet.... HOW the F can i access her computer from mine. Im not talking VNC, im talking if i want a file or movie or something from her computer, how can i make a network or something so that i can access her computer? I have tried everything (her computer name//IP) in a address bar, tried using 'wireless network setup wizard' i have tried alot and just get an error... i still cannot figure it out... Are there any other ways out there to set up so i can access my grandmas computer from upstairs? -

I moved to my grandparents and now im not connected straight to my modem anymore. Im using a Linksys Wireless G router with Speed booster... The router is on my grandmas computer and i have the network card. Back at home i was getting close to 200 Kbps a second download (when it was the westel moden right into my comp) and now im this... :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 721 Kbps about 0.72 Mbps (tested with 386 kB) Download Speed is:: 88 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Server 1) Test Time:: 2006/04/15 - 1:30pm Bottom Line:: 13X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 11.64 sec Tested from a 386 kB file and took 4.39 seconds to complete Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1) Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 14.05 % of your hosts average (verizon.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-X5E6BLVOQ that really REALLY upsets me... am i to expect this or are there some things i can do to tweek// settings to change to boost that performance. Im not going to be very satisified with that.

I can connect BUT when the screen to load my computer comes up, it goes heywire and tons of screens are continuously being processed saying 'please wait...initial screen loading' http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i314/CaptainSauce/DANGIT.jpg thats what it looks like, im confused on what to do. P.S. Sorry to be constantly posting about this.

Thats one thing i love about Verizon. You can get the Internet Security Suite and to be honest, It works amazing. I love it, best firewall/anti-spy/anti-virus i have ever had. It does EVERYTHING of wanders for you.
-
ISP = Verizon, Im port forwardable, and im trying to connec to my home computer from school.
-
so im in class right now, trying to access my computer at home which is running the VNC server and i cannot connect.... any ideas? i have 5900 as my main port and 80 as the http port.
-
roger that, got it, and i THINK im good to go.
-
you mean in the properties, on the connections tab accept connections on port: set that to 80?
-
i thought starting the server was just getting it running so that i can access it from another computer
-
I just downloaded the free version of realVNC off their site (www.realVNC.com) i installed it and im playing around with it because i want to set it up so i can access my computer from my computer class at school... after installing it i try to run the server and a dos screen pops up saying 'Starting User-Mode VNC Server.' and it just sits there.... why is it not connecting, i know i dont have it firewalled... any ideas anyone?
-
if you dont mind, how do i set it to 80? Im not superiorly experienced with the program
-
eh, if all else fails, im buying a 1 Gig flash drive soon, ill just put stuff on that. : ) im going to set up a VNC on my comp tonight and see if i can get through to it from the school. some of the teachers do it so i imagine i can do it.
-
yeah well when you're a SR in high school, have all your required classes done, and dont need anymore electives. and can easily maintain a 95% GPA...You have NOTHING better to do. As long as i keep my GPA high, ill do whatever i want.
