My 10Mb connection was constantly very fast it seemed, but today my sister came to stay for a few days away from university.
she asked me if she could use the pc i told her that she could just use her lappy and not downlaod spyware on my machine, so i hooked it up via ethernet and off she went.... i couldnt help but do a quick speed test and to my amazement she had a constant test result of 9.4Mb......
my machine is now gettting slower..... obviosuly its not the connection because she can achiebve high speeds and my computer is just slow... the max i get is 5mb nothing faster...

thats a constant.... what can i do on my computer to speed things us browsing and when downloading....
1. What OS are you running? Windows XP SP2 installed fix still no difference.
2. Who your Internet Service Provider (ISP) is, and what the advertised speed for download/upload is.
isp Blueyonder Cable 10Mb Down 356Up
3. What tweaking programs you already have installed, and run this test. Copy all text and paste it in your post! For security reasons, blank out your IP #.
TCP options string = 0204058601010402
MTU = 1454
MTU sometimes used in PPPoA applications. If not, consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput. If you are using a router, it could be limiting your MTU regardless of Registry settings.
MSS = 1414
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1414, which equals MSS.
Default TCP Receive Window (RWIN) = 65535
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled TCP Receive Window = 65535
Note: TCP 1323 Options need to be enabled for RWIN over 2^16 (65535). Windows 9x might also need the MS Vtcp386 fix.
For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other RWIN values that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
520352 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of
260176 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 4)
130088 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 2)
65044 (MSS x 46)
bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):
Your TCP Window limits you to: 2621.4 kbps (327.675 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your TCP Window limits you to: 1048.56 kbps (131.07 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 121 hops
TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000 (0)

p0rnrh3tt Welcome to the forum, well try
As VanBuren says try a bigger file because when you use a small one all the connection does is starts and seconds later it stops it dosent have enought time to reach its peak/maximum speed using a large file will max it out and hopefully give you an accurate test.

Wow, you got a way to go to fill all 2gigs up lol ..... Lets Get Spamming.. pmsl

This is my speed and im from the UK. Seems that UK is catching up with America..... At the start of 2007 My Broadband Supplier is upgrading me to 25Mb from 10Mb as that will be the basic pack they will be doing.
Btw im on NTL:Telewest aka Virgin.
I pay

I used to be with BT - British Telecoms but they dont offer a mb anymore as all the customers have been moved to their stupid 8Mb speed which always gave me problems. I actually never saw 8Mb i only got max was 3.5Mb.
So i moved to telewest Broadband and i am currently getting this

Well only on thursday i joined Telewest Cable / Blueyonder and even though their service is more reliable its not really as fast as it says im sure it will take some tweaking but this cableut app to me is confusing and i dont know what setting to change.
I am on a 10mb D/L 520 U/L
I am connected to the modem directly via ethernet the modem is hokked to the net via a standard coxial cable.
