in windows explorer , go to tools from menu bar. then choose folder options. in the above tabs choose View. in the setting it will be usually be the 10th setting. "Hide extension for known file types". uncheck it. now u can change the name of file along with extension. like if its a movie file : file.avi . u can change it to boobaa.txt . and it becomes a text file. although if u dont uncheck the option . u wont see the file extension in explorer windows. and if u rename it to boobaa.txt. it will still be a video file with name "boobaa.txt" . so actually the file will be (along with format) . boobaa.txt.avi u can mail me.

hey i have done this 1000 times i think . www.seagate.com get a hard drive booting software from there it will be a floppy disk or a cd image (burn it) . it will be called DISCSTARTER something. ull be able to boot and format the thing. but yea win xp home version wont be able to install then. get pro version. or install win 98 then upgrade it with win home.

just right click the files/folders. click properties. their u can set their attributes of being hidden or not

ok people so this is how my case was. and this very recently happened again. so due to power failure, which very frequent over here, some of my folders were completely not existing anymore . and i went as cholla suggested to Folder Options and unchecked "Hide Protected System Files......." , which gives back a folder usually named found.00X . and very luckily in those folders u found the exact folder u lost (the folder name may be changed to dir.00X) with all files and subfolders with proper names. MAY GOD NEVER PUT ANYONE IN THE SITUATION SO HE DESPARATELY HAS TO READ THIS POST GOD IS GREAT

not really. none of that is possible solution. the folder is not there even from dos. i ran check disk . no use. plus i am ultimately sure that i did not delete it. im not that kinda guy. i searched a lot for recovery programs. THEY DO SHOW ME that ALL THIS CAN BE RECOVERED. but then they ask for money. so someone please tell me something

ok i had this one folder where i kept every every thing. kind of 40+ GB of data. due to some kind of power failure once or something , suddenly the folder has stopped showing it self. yup . it aint there . not hidden or anything . it is just not there. but my hard disk is still using up that much of space that it used to take. ok so what are the possibilites of me getting that back? and how? and if possible me doing it myself? please help , thank you testmy members solidsnake

Ok someone please gotta help. This is the deal. I am in a country far behind in today's progressing Net World. So at around 15$ im getting speed 128 Kbps and 256 Kbps for 7 hours at night. unlimited downloading (Thank God). but my Evil ISP is actually "throttling the speeds" of the users especially the heavy downloaders . thats why we get speeds of only like 80-90 Kbps in day at double of that for seven hours night. We are beginning to feel being victim of ..... some internet bandwidth fraud or something . another member of testmy.net "hiteshsomai" faces same problem. anyway the internet is through broadband router. i have the router. is something possible on my end. because in the router i see downstream limit of upto 512 Kbps. please just lay down what can be done. The security and cyber laws in this country are very meagre. So something unfair can also be possible to do. (i guess if thats only way to get fair). So Someone please help.
