  3. If you click on "Sign In", then "Sign Up" after "Don't have an account?", it works, but the direct Sign Up link is not working. Just letting you know. I'm on the Hughesnet Community boards and when people are being told to create an account here they aren't able to.
  4. Lucky bugger!!! LOL. I can only imagine what speed like this would be like. I'd probably stream something for the first time. I pay the exact same price (with my $5 invoice fee added on) and get less than one tenth of that, plus a data cap and huge latency.
  5. Hughesnet. $79.98 per month. It's either this, sketchy wireless, or dialup. I'll stick with this until something better comes along.
  6. james1979, I'm on the Jupiter satellite and I am using the HT1100 modem. I'm not sure about the HT1100 and the new satellite, but I'm sure that's what they will be using. Right now they are upgrading people on the HT1000 modems to the HT1100 for free. People just ask on the community boards and they send them one. They may even be doing it for people on the HNS9000. I'm not sure. I'm getting speeds like this because I am on a beam that is lightly loaded. My plan actually has an advertised "Up To" speed of 10Mbps, so you can imagine my surprise when I first upgraded to Gen4 in Feb. I thought the test was wrong, but after a few more, I was shocked to realize that I was actually getting the speeds it showed, which at the time was around 20Mpbs. A couple of months ago the speed started going up, and right now, during the middle of off peak usage times, it's not at all unusual to be getting in the high 20s and low 30s. The highest speed I ever got is in the picture below...
  7. Sean, We definitely get slowdown times during the evening, and I have seen my own speeds drop drastically, sometimes down to nearly 1Mbps. For the most part, though, they're doing pretty good with their speeds. One problem, though, is that quite a few of the customers are on the older, original Gen4 satellite, and it has a cap of around 5Mbps. They are launching a new satellite in December to help alleviate the speed problems those folks are having, and also provide service to more people.
  8. Getting better over the last month and a half or so. Right now, with the Gen4 plan, you can still buy the equipment, though I'm not sure how much it is. $200 maybe? The Gen4 plans have no free download time. They have the Anytime Data, which is really the biggest difference between plans, and the Bonus Bytes, which is 50GB with all of the plans. Anytime Data is 8:00AM to 2:00AM, and Bonus Bytes is 2:00AM to 8:00AM. If you run out of Bonus Bytes, though, the Anytime Data will be used during Bonus Bytes time, hence the name. With that said, I prefer to lease the equipment, because if anything goes wrong with it, it's covered. If you purchase it and later something goes wrong with it, you have to pay to have it fixed, not only for the parts, but the labor, as well. Sure, in the long leasing costs more, but it's worth the peace of mind. I have the 15GB/50GB plan. I don't stream, so it's plenty for me, and for three Windows 10 PCs, too. I pay about $85 for mine, but I have a 12 month discount. Normally it would be $79.99 for the plan and $9.99 for the equipment lease, plus tax. My plan has Smart Browsing, as well. If I use up all of my data, I can still browse with no noticeable drop in speed. That's browsing, though. If you try to download large files while in Smart Browsing, it will throttle you to around 150Kbps.
  9. Actually, during that time it's not too bad. I've found, at least for my beam and gateway, that it slows down the most somewhere around 8:00pm to 11:30pm or so. Then right around 2:00am. For the upload test, you can use 6MB, but for the speed of Hughesnet that's really a waste of data. The 2MB size lets it run long enough to average out the spikes and dips. The engineers there recommend 2MB for upload and 12MB for download, though I use 15MB for download as the 12MB test almost always upsizes to the 30s or 40s, wasting data.

  12. It's not that they aren't coming across on the forum...they are. Mark is posting the results URL, but what we are seeing is what you are seeing and what Mark posted at the top. Something is definitely wrong and we (I'm just a forum member, I don't work for Hughesnet) are trying to figure out why the latest results are so incredibly skewed. The speeds results the table is showing are impossible with Hughesnet. He says that he's not seeing during the testing what we are all seeing from the results. We can't figure out what's going on. Whether the tests are actually using 200MB is a little hard to determine as we are having a little bit of a hard time with communication (he's VERY new to computers, so it's a learning experience), but one thing is for sure and that is that the 500MB+ results are erroneous. The last I remember Mark suggested he was going to record a video of him doing a test so we could see what he's seeing, but I haven't seen that yet. I think the original issue was slow speeds. I've never seen anything happen like what's happening with his speed tests, so I'm at a loss. The speeds with the few tests that appeared to work seem fine. He's getting from 63% to 96% of the "up to 10MB" speeds in those tests. As for the others...obviously incorrect results.
  13. buggin, Did they ever determine what the problem was? With mine, I get fantastic speeds during off peak hours, but during peak hours, namely from about 5:30PM to about 10:30PM, for about twenty minutes starting right at 2:00AM, and again from about 6:30AM to about 9:00AM, the speeds can drop drastically, even down to the ones. Could it be this, or were the speeds dropping during off peak hours?

  15. Whenever I click on my "Results," there are constantly tests with a yellow background that AREN"T MY TESTS. I clear them out, then a day later more are there. Why do I have to keep doing this? It's getting VERY annoying. When I want to look at my results, I expect MY results, so I can see MY average speed, not my speed and a bunch of others.   16. Well, I can tell you this much. I've had Hughesnet since 2004, and it's been decent. When it snows hard and/or the dish gets some buildup, you do lose the signal, but my dish is low enough that I can clean it off easily. I just upgraded to the Gen4 from the original plan that I had since 2004, and I have been happy with it thus far. There are slowdowns during the peak period, but that's to be expected. I am in the same boat as you in regard to nothing else being available. But, be forewarned, Hughesnet offers Gen4 now, but only the eastern third of the US and a few pockets on the west coast truly get the Gen4 speeds, whereas the rest of the country is put on the older satellite and are limited to a speed of 5Mbps down. Also, I am pretty sure that it's Hughesnet that Dish offers. They don't have actual satellite internet themselves. Again, though, with regard to losing the signal, that is the norm with heavy snow and snow buildup on the dish. I don't recall ever losing it when it rains, save for one really nasty storm a few years back. It happens with DirecTV, as well. I hope this helps.
  17. How is the mobile service doing for you? I have had Hughesnet, which started as Direcway, since late 2004. My DW6000 provided me with constant 1mb down speeds. They then offered the upgrade to the DW7000, which they said would improve my service, but didn't. My speeds dropped drastically. They then offered the HN7000S, but again, awful speeds. As of the last year or so, the speeds have vastly improved. I now get my stated speeds, and even moreso at offpeak hours. Also, because I still have the same plan I started with, which is the Pro plan, I am getting 425Mb daily allowances, which is a lot higher than what they are giving to new signups. Compared to cable and DSL it still sucks, but at least it is starting to get better. I had a petition for Verizon to install the eqipment in the box just down the road so we could get DSL service, and had 46 people sign it, but they haven't done it yet. I don't think mobil would be better for me as they don't have the open download time and their monthly allowances are pretty low. I guess for now I am still stuck with this. I would NEVER go with WildBlue. My nextdoor neighbor has it and they have nothing but awful speeds with it. P.S. At least Hughesnet finally started listening a little bit and started to base some of their call center people in the US again. Either that or they just knew they could get cheap labor here because of the current job situation in the US (it wouldn't surprise me if this was the real reason they decided to bring some jobs back to the US).
  18. The HN9000 was never offered. I just got something in the mail from them saying I can upgrade to the HN7000S for free and that it is a better and more secure modem. After I upgraded the modem it wouldn't work at all, so they put me on another transponder and I have been regretting it ever since. The transponder they put me on has, at max, a signal strength of 78. That was the best one they could find. When I had the DW7000 it was 66, max, but at least it was consistent with the speed. I have the pro plan...does the HN9000 work with that? Also, as usual, this morning I tested the download and I was getting 452, tested it a half hour ago and it's 1475, then I tested it 15 minutes ago and it's down to 800. It just all over the place. At least with the DW7000 I was getting at least 1000 consistently. I tell ya, when and if DSL finally gets here (I am in the boonies and more than 5 miles from the substation), or if I move and have cable or DSL available at the new place, I am just going to use Hughesnet here till they shut it off from me not paying and I will never, EVER pay them the two months that I would owe them, nor the termination fee. I really hate Hughesnet and have been rubbed the wrong way by them...can you tell? In my 37 years, they are the absolute worst company I have ever dealt with.
  19. Definitely stick with what you have. I wish I would have stayed with my DW7000 as this HN7000S has reduced my speed drastically.
  20. I used to have the DW7000 and I would get about 1100 down and 200 up on the Pro plan, no matter what time of day it was. I switched to the HN7000S because they touted it as being faster and more secure. Well, for the last month and a half that I have been on this new "modem", my speeds have been terrible. Sometimes so bad that it times out when opening Google. At other times it will spike to 1250 down, which makes no sense. I called them and it was the same ole same ole. They sent a request to have "level 5" tech service call me, because after three hours they couldn't figure out what was wrong, and I gave them the times I would be home. They called twice at completely other times so I was never able to talk to them. I finally called tech support back and told them I wanted to go back to my old modem and they said it was impossible. What a bunch of crap! It must have some self destruct mode where all of the circuits fry when they decomission it? I'm not that stupid! They just DON'T WANT to switch it back. Oh, and when I upgraded they made me switch transponders because they said the new one wouldn't work with the transponder I was on. I think that either the new transponder, or the modem, or both have the ability to be throttled down by them, and I think that is what is happening. Half of the time they don't know what they are doing in tech support and the other half of the time they lie. Upgrading to this new modem was the worst thing I could have done...and now I am stuck with it. My advice is... if you are happy with what you have, stick with it, because Hughesnet is just getting worse and worse. They know you have no cable or DSL available to you and therefore can do and charge anything they want. Didn't Microsoft get nailed for an antitrust violation?
  21. I stand corrected. I didn't know that. Anyway, it looks like it's either a new board and processor, or a whole new comp. Looks like you don't have much of a choice.
  22. You don't HAVE to get a new processor. There are a few socket 478 motherboards out there that use PCIE rather than AGP, but they are expensive. Also, as the above poster said, you might as well just save up some and get a decent new computer, rather than having "half" a new computer. In the long run it would cost less. You could sell the old one on ebay.
  23. Absolutely. I have a geforce 6800 I just bought last year so my upgrade is only the board and processor, but it was tricky finding a decent board that had AGP. But I did.
  24. amc....that's cool. What night wants to do is get another motherboard that will take a PCIe Card, which is fine. What I'm trying to explain, is that the processor he uses will NOT WORK in a new motherboard that uses PCIE. That's all. That's why I am saying that he needs to get another processor too, because the one he has now is going to be nothing more than a paperweight with a new board.
