Win XP Home When sound cuts out you just dont hear anything. Soundmax Digital audio

When I stay logged in on my pc for 4+ hours my sound won't work anymore. I have to log in and log back out. I don't have to shutdown though. Can someone please help me I have no idea what is going on.

Last night I uninstalled norton and installed AVG. Best pc choice i've made. Around this time at night with norton I would get 10-11 mbps down. Well with norton gone and avg in... :::.. Pssht its GONE! Hello AVG!

When I finally decided to remove norton and go with AVG it won't let me uninstall it! It says that instances of live update are running in the background. How do I close them? I don't want to go into my processes and just start killing processes. Thanks It won't let me uninstall in safe mode, it says it detected I was in safe mode and that I need to restart my pc in normal mode and uninstall.
