UPDATE I believe i found the problem. When i used commview to watch traffic on my connection/router, i noticed a lot of hits on port 8331. Probably not a big thing to worry about, but i read your sticky and saw the sygate firewall (which i heard a lot about). Lo and behold, when i installed it, my connect jumps from 3Mbps to 4Mbps =D :::.. I've done that, I have the latest drivers from realtek. I don't know if system specs matter, but I'll say what I have. My comp AMD 64 2800+ MSI K8T800 80GB 8mb cache Western Digital (separate IDE to board) 120GB 8mb cache Western Digital (separate IDE on PCI ATA controller) her comp AMD 64 3200+ Abit Uguru Western Digital 74GB raptor VIA Velocity gigabit onboard ethernet I've also tried setting the rwin to the lowest possible, but it seems nothing will kill the connection =( (i'm using 4000/384 v5 in cablenut).

that's how my card's been set up from the beginning =P, 100Mbps full duplex and it was 8169 and 8139, my bad, i wrote that at 1am in the morning =P.

You may remember my post about the slow speeds i was getting. I think i found the problem. My sister recently got a computer that has a "VIA Velocity" onboard ethernet card and when i use testmy.net to test speed, i get the full 4Mbps. However, when i use my onboard RealTek 6169 on my comp, i'm only hitting 2.5-3Mbps. Same thing w/ my other card (Realtek 6139). Could it be Realtek that would be the problem? I updated the drivers for both of them, but to no avail. BTW: used version 5 of cablenut settings... i even used a slower setting on my sister's and it still is hitting 4Mbps ><. We're connected to a router, and the modem's right beside me. I've done almost everything I can, but I would like to know if the speeds could be affected by realtek's ethernet card. I believe they render webpages differently as firefox is built on standards and IE is built on their OWN standards. That could be a reason. Howver, i still love firefox because it's cleaner and less messy when opening new windows. God do i love tabbed browsing

Yep, basically tricks your modem into thinking you're the TFTP server... But has reno has said, use at your own risk. If you get caught, you might get a warning, have your cap lowered, or lose your connection. Not to mention you might land in court. If you do decide to do it, don't be an idiot and set the cap to something OBVIOUS (like 7mbps while everyone else is 3mbps). They may monitor usage how how much traffic is passing through the system. Another advice would be to not leave the new cap rate on forever. Maybe temporarily (like 2 days or so) so you won't run into trouble.

When you power up your modem, your modem will contact a TFTP server, which will then request a config file that your modem will read in order to get it's settings. This file contains the upload rate, download rate, etc. Problem is, a lot of broadband modems will automatically update the flash bios, thereby disabling any attempt to upload your own config file because of protection (i've tried).

yep, i randomly went through the forums and found a user that had the same speed/service as me and found the 4000/386 files attached. I reconfigured my connection because i was using 4400/386 but just modified a couple settings that were similar to the 4000/xxx file =P. I'm currently using your 4000/386 file.

To start off, if you don't overclock, grab the 512mb corsair valu-select. I have two in my comp and it works flawlessly. Hell, for $67 bux each, you'd be happy too. If you want more power, go corsair, kingston, crucial, or possibly geil (not too sure about them). Another good site is www.pricegrabber.com to find the cheapest price anywhere, as well as the best stores to shop at.

You can remove the cap set in place, however, that would be deemed illegal and would land you in court for stealing bandwidth (don't argue... you won't win in a court battle). I won't say how to uncap your modem, but they are out there. Aldephia is 3mbps cap, which is typical of many cable internet companies (though some have raised their download speeds to 4mbps). The caps are set in place to distribute bandwidth evenly and effeciently... not where one person uses 10 mbps to saturate the network, therefore slowing others down. However, upping the cap to 4mbps could send Aldephia the red flag (if they monitor) and they'd pull the plug on your service (probably something in the ToS).

Hi ya, Comcast recently upgraded to the 4Mbps speed. I normally hit 3.3mpbs (sometimes higher, sometimes lower... but that's the avg), however, I recently noticed something.
