  1. oh now days with the faster processors you wont notice say like from an single core to even a dual core or quad core.  but yeah if your running like say a AMD 700 running win xp then yeah your going to notice a big difference with loadding pages and so forth that are graphic intensive.

hey, does the processor you use affect your speed?

  2. Funny since cable DOCSIS 2.0 isnt even able to go to 45 let alone 100mb.

    DOCSIS      Downstream                Upstream

    1.x            42.88 (38) Mbit/s          10.24 (9) Mbit/s

    Euro          57.20 (51) Mbit/s          10.24 (9) Mbit/s

    2.0            42.88 (38) Mbit/s          30.72 (27) Mbit/s

    3.0          +480 Mbit/s                  +120 Mbit/s

All though it would be nice have the 3.0 but it was just released in 2006 and i doubt that HSC companies will speed the money to upgrade.

get rid of buisness unless you need it...

me just signed up for it in buffalo 3 months ago 29.99 and premier 39.99 for 2 years i never known the speeds would ever hit this high .i was on buisness dsl for a long time paying what you paying now 7.1meg connection...

I talk to a tech @ROADRUNNER he says it'll be 30meg soon and then two other packages for a higher price 45meg and a 100meg ,there trying to keep things going (they know VERIZON FIOS IS OUT THERE)

  3. Decided to run a test around noon today

  5. My speeds are Unrestricted/768, bascially theres no cap on my modem, the midco max package has the no back, but there lower package is capped at 10mb/512k

I average around 18 to 20Mb down,  i think that its do to that fact that my upload is capped at 768.

Whats your advertised speeds ? I get really fast to my FTP now in the picture below

  6. I asked my ISP why our upload cant be at least 1 MB or better and they said that it all depends on what the depand is in your area basically saying that there not going up faster then the next guy in the town all though after people have been asking for faster uploads they just bumped my upload from 512 to 768 and also i have noticed faster downloads now, so that tells me the faster your upload is the better throughput you can acheive on the downside.

but i dont really see an issue with the hub i have.. its a managed netgear hub...

i also like the hub cause i can host things without having to port forward..

You must have one computer hooked up to the internet then have the other computers connected to the hub and then routed to use you main system to access the net??

Back when i was in colledge we has mighty Pentiums 133 and 150 and windows 95 :D  who and when  you typed in a website you could make a pot of coffee and get back just in time for the page to get loaded up lol

boy how times have changed in those few years.

  18. about that ReadyBoost for Windows Vista. can I install windows vista on that usb flash card? Im might thinkin of buying 8 gig flash card!

    just wondering, thanks

    :smile2:

You know hmmmmmm never tried putting an os on a Flash drive lol i mean i know you can boot with a flash drive but i am doubtfull that it will work but you never know just plug the sucker in and put your windows disk in and see if the OS will see the flash drive as a destination source.

  19. Well the laptop from J&R didn't work out. I waited too long and now they're out of stock. I've been looking around a lot on ebay cause i want to get the most computer for my money but I'm kinda scared to order something that big on there. I'd really like the 17" monitor cause it would be really nice for movies which is something i plan to use it for a lot but from what I hear the battery life isn't so great on those for obvious reasons. It's hard for me to settle for just anything. I'd like something with 2GB of ram so i don't have to worry about upgrading it later on but not sure if it's really needed or not. I've heard mixed reviews on Vista both on here and elsewhere so  I can't decide if I want it or to just stick with XP. I know i definitely want something with at least a 120GB hard drive so I don't have to worry about space. Maybe you all know of some sites I could look at to find the best possible deal, or maybe shed some light on the whole idea of buying a laptop on ebay. Also, if somebody could explain to me exactly what cache is and how important that is? Thanks again.

Let me give you some advise, whatever you buy for around 800 dollars will be obsolete the next day.  I would stay away from ebay when it comes with computers but thats just my opinion, you can never be sure if you buying someone elses junk.

Your not going to get 2gig of ram and 120 gig hard and especially and 17inch lcd screen for less then 800 dollars.  Just isnt going to happen.
