  2. I think HD DVDs are of a lower quality then what the theaters have because theaters dont care about portable DVDs.  (just play off a harddrive)

Wow i seen that Demo thats going to be cool when they all implement the digital.  here this whole time everybody has been watching the movies in anolog lol

  3. theres a Theater in Atlanta GA the from what i heard runs off of DVD

it just seems like the quality sucks then again it could be those people that are doing the splicing of the film,  I know i guy thats a magager for one and i seen those huge reals they have and how it all works.  just just looks like old machines that they used back in the stone ages lol

  4. Had no idea on that one. Thought vista was supposed to be so much more secure. Sorry. I am being a smarty pants. Vista is turning into such a joke. One more reason to stay away from it.

B*tch and moan wow, I like Vista alot better than XP,  all the awsome eye candy

  5. Yeah buntz we have already had all that stuff checked out.

About a week ago actually, We had to have Comcast come out here to check our current service because of issues, it was actually   our TV (My parents didnt beleive me in the first place!!) So thats why I am looking at new TV's. But anyways we got the newest cable box now. Its so small, Its about the size of an SB5100 SurfBoard modem :D.

Parents???? you live at home????  boy i remember those good old days had all kinds of money then lol

how many people on here still live with there parents??

  6. lol  I have a HD box, nothing like pausing live tv, it works great never had a problem with it, had the hd box for over a year now.  it has a 120gig hd in it, nothing like recording movies or what ever you want or your favorite epsode so you dont miss it..  The best i like is recording your favorite football or nascar race and then back back after work and watch it and fast forward through all the comercials :-)

    Yeah DVR rocks!!

  7. Why doesnt all movie theaters get rid of the old tape technology and go with DVD,  I think the viewing experience would be alot better with the pic quality especially the HD DVD's I wouldnt mind going the the theater to watch movies if they had HD DVDs playing  :smile2:

I just had to put my thoughts into this and wondering what you all thought about it

  8. Semi-True

As an EDUCATED consumer, I DO care whats inside.  Its not always about the quality of the picture, although it plays a big part.  There are other things to take into effect when buying a new TV.

Space:  LCD takes up the least (usually)

Power Consumption: (LCD uses the least I think)

Sound: Typically, a rear projection TV has the best built in sound.

    Number of ports

    Burn-in

    Response time

    and lots of other things.

But I do see your point, to the dumb consumer, its what has the best picture.

Each technology has its strengths and weaknesses, so whether or not one is better than the other is subjective.

On another note: G4 absolutely BLOWS compared to what TechTV used to be....

yeah i do agree with you there as far as space and what your looking for in hookups and all but about the G4 yeah it does BLOW.  I still watch Patrick Norton and Robert Herring on dl.tv there on twice a week so thats cool i just download the 200mb file there shows run about 40min they talk about things just like the screensavers did.

of course you can watch them live at 3pm eastern or 2pm central time.

  9. Either way, its still just a GIANT, soft resolution projector.

and they trip me out the way they advertise DLP as though it was something new.  Its been around for over a decade....

Robert Herring on DL.TV or used to be on TechTV if anybody has ever kept up with technology would know about the screensavers untill G4 bought out Techtv but anyway Robert is an expert when it comes to High Def TV's and he says that DLP's are great.  As a consumer, you don't really care if your television has DLP, LCD, or LCOS inside the box. What you care about is how the picture looks. And they do look different. You will do yourself a favor if you resist the temptation to prejudge which technology is better, as conventional wisdom is often wrong. Not only that, but the truth changes rapidly in this industry. What is the "best" today is old and antiquated tomorrow.

  10. Not any more. Plasmas have gotten much better. There is no more burn in. We leave the same image up on ours that we install for months at a time with out turning them off and never get any burn in. 3 years ago yes not any more.

on LCD's ghosting is just about gone on all. Most displays are now 2-4ms g2g and 3-5ms g2b2g and you can't see it at all. Hitachi and Samsung actually have a 0ms display.

When you choose between plasma and LCD it should only be because of size. higher then 42in go plasma, 42in and below go LCD.

I like rear projection HDTVs actually they look awsome i know my brother has one and so does my sister in theater room in there house.    my brother buys nothing but the best.  hell his wiring for his theater system cost over 10,000 dollars.  his surround sound is powered by oknyo and his speakers are of course nothing but the best Bose.  7.1 surround alot better then the movie theaters from what i have noticed.

  11. LCDs are good but they can smear when playing fast games on them.  just remember you the motto " you get for what you pay"  stay away from plasmas they are better for quality then LCDs but plasmas are really easy to have a burned in image.

If you going to get an LCD make sure you look at the resolution and of course the higher the better.

  12. Yeah not bad for a daytime connection.. Nothing like being a nite owl though and sucking up huge amounts of bandwidth at nite when everyone is sleeping lol

    eat that

lol well i dont need to show off like that because i already did lol and found out there was alot of people out there with connectiongs alot faster then mine and HOLY CRAP i would love that upload speed  :grin2:

  15. i have vista only now and the internets running fine. only annoying thing is that the router disconnects from the network when i use p2p programs like bittorent >_>

Router wouldnt have nothing to do with your OS since a router is OS independent.  I dont have any problems running P2P programs.  Best programs out there in my ratings would be Frostwire :-) really fast.  One program for everything :-)

  16. Anyone running Vista and if so are your download speeds slower?I have both XP and Vista on my machine and as far as speed goes Vista S---ks

Yeah i have Buisness actually i can pull info faster with my wireless now then i can with my wired xp machine.  no tweaks at all with vista, and the machine with vista on it is wireless  :grin2:

Just have to let Auto Tunning do its thing  " One thing that should be mentioned is that if you are dropping to many packets then yes Vista will govern your connection down so that you will get a steady stream of packets without loss, but it will push it back up again once it sees that your maintaing no packet loss.  Thats from what i gather about the whole thing."

  17. Thanks for all the advice guys. I've been looking around myself and came across this one...

    http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4162127

Now I have never ordered anything through them but figured it might be worth it. This looks like a pretty good deal. Maybe some of you have order through J&R. I saw it was refurbished. Not sure if this is right but doesn't that mean it's been factory tested to be as good as new?

Yeah thats a good deal, referbish just means a customer had it at one time and didnt like it or somethning was wrong with it within there return grace period and so the manufacture or a qualified service center went through the whole system and cleaned it up and fixed whatever was wrong withit.  I have own referbish products and atually its still going. bought it back in 1990.

  18. damn that is a pretty decent deal..

Yeah thats what i thought to for a 17inch,  Gateway is coming back building alot better systems, actually they moved back to SD from Sioux City Iowa.  Hey i still have a Gateway 486DX Turbo,  came with a monster 500 MB hard drive and 8 mb of Ram. lol if you kicked the turbo in it would run at 66 mhz without the turbo would run 33 mhz lol.

ive put the fastest processor that i could it in and it was the AMD 133 and upgraded the memory to 40mb and loaded win 95 on it lol actually it did pretty good with 95
