  1. I found these values in my routers web page under the Status tab.  I have a Home LAN so I am not clear as to what the, WLAN and WAN is referring to and why is there apparently some signal in these areas.  I thank you for your assistance.

    Your Friend,

    compuworm

    LAN (rx/tx) :

    374.85 K (1.23 K/s) 2.69 M (10.64 K/s)

    WLAN (rx/tx) :

    0 (0.00 K/s) 202.19 K (0.07 K/s)

    WAN (rx/tx) :

    6.13 M (2.16 K/s) 194.81 K (0.01 K/s)

  2. What ccs file did you apply to the cablenut program?  OK lets try another program go to the link below and download this program:

    https://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php

Make sure you open the cablenut program and click the, Delete Cablenut Tweaks", button.  Then hit the, Exit button.

Now open the SG TCP Optimizer program and  select all that I have selected according to the image I have attached for you.  Make sure you click the, Apply Changes button.  Restart your computer and again post speed settings.

  3. You have a NIC to which your Modem is connected.  You need to find out if this is set to 10 full duplex or 100 full duplex.  Press and hold down the, " Alt" key and double click your, My Computer icon.  This should bring up the Device Manager Window.  Look at the devices listed and click on the plus sign next to the Network Adapter.  This should show you your network Card.  Double click on this device and this should open your NIC window.

Click the Advance tap and select, Media Type and the value should be shown.  If it is set at 100Base TX full duplex try changing the setting to 10baseT full duplex.  Click, OK and restart your computer and power cycle your modem.  Then try your speed test again and post.

    Sincerely,

  4. A good spyware program to start with is, "Spybot Search & Destroy", is absolutely free.

Also, another good freeware is CCleaner (love it)

    http://www.ccleaner.com

You can also download, "XoftSpy", this is not a freeware and the program only allows for scans but it will show if there are any problems such as Trojans on your system.  It found the Hook.dll Trojan for me and I used Spybot to get rid of it.

    I hope I have helped.

  5. If you downloaded the cablenut program you then use Vanburen's files to load into the cablenut program.  So if you know what your download/upload speeds your ISP is providing then select the Vanburen ccs file that is a match to what your ISP provides.  If u are not behind a router no further discussion is needed for that topic further.

first step open the Cablenut Program (exe).

Second step, go to file menu and select, "Open Custom Setttings File".

Third step, browse to where u downloaded the Vanburen Cablenut settings and load the ccs file that matches what your ISP offers you now.

Forth step, once you select the file Click the, "Open", button of the Open dialog box.

Fifth step, once the values appear in the cablenut program (Manual Tweak Screen) click the, "Save to Registry". button in the lower righer hand corner of the program.

There u  did it.  You now improved your TCP/IP connections.

  6. This may seem like an obvious question but have you done any tweaking to your system specifically for your TCP/IP connections?  Are u behind a router, do you have the latest firmware?  Are you using Vanburen's Cablenut settings with the Cablenut program?

    Sincerely,

    compuworm

P.S.  Resopalrabotnick,. is absolutely correct this sounds like a bunch of BS to me DO NOT REFORMAT.

  7. Perhaps just perhaps too much emphasis is being placed on learning through computers.  They are indeed a great tool but really how much to we actually learn and what is it that they help us learn.  I remember a Harvard study some years ago now (I tried to find it) where two large groups of freshmen engineering college students participated in this study.

One group could use computers (as is standard in most colleges) in their course of study throughout college and the second had no use what so ever of computers.  I suppose they (Harvard) fell back to a 1950's model of education where the emphasis was more hands-on?  At the end of the college, post graduation, testing of both groups included giving each engineering group (as I remember) the same set of problems  solve.

Again one group had computers to aid in their problem solving whereas group two did not.  Testing took place at the same.  The results where amazing not only did the hands-on group solve all there testing problems proposed by the Harvard group but they also accomplished it in given time frame.  Engineering group two could not solve a single problem in the given time frame.

In the end (again as I remember) the study concluded that computers can't or has a diminished ability to help us to learn how to model in our minds.  It seemed that tactile and sensory experience gained  by group two, such as having to use their minds to see, rotate, and their hands drawing models of the objects, more clearly helped them to focus their minds thus giving them greater problem solving abilities.

Please don't get me wrong, I love computers and I am not knocking them.  Hell, I own two laptops, and three desktops.  Further, my memoirs of the study go back a long way so I apologize if any of the details are incorrect.  In inclusion, I don't believe the World's Poorest need computers to get connected.  Hell, isn't just staying alive a rather large issue.

A hundred dollars might as well be a million to them and where in the world would they get it?  Here in lies the greatest question to be answered .  Where would seeminly penniless people get money to pay for a  one hundred dollar laptop?  Who would be behind making sure they got that money and why?

  8. Shame on you ROM-DOS,

Mr. Barrett is only looking after the needs of the world's poorest.  How the heck does Barrett know World's poorest don't want a '$100 laptop'?  I will tell you how he knows,  just look at the Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Pyramid (see attachment).  The man is only trying to help and look after the welfare of those less fortunite then him.  The man is a saint for god sake!

  9. This site given by chief_osceloa is out of date I dont even go there anymore because the Firmware listed there is not based on linksys's new firmware like 4.70.6 instead it is based on older linksys firmware.  Instead go here and register.  Then go to, "Downloads" and look under the router that you have and you can download the newest Firmware based on 4.70.6 for your router.

    http://www.linksysinfo.org/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=25

If you have version 1, wrt54gs make sure you download the WRT54GS with Hyperwrt 4.70.6-201105 (Thibor) Firmware it is for versions 1-4.
