well a long strung out storm front, and I am shooting southwest anyways, does seem to slow my sytem down a bit.. but not off 'the air' by no means..I am 1000/192 plan and am usually near that, or better sometimes..not today..not right this minute.. still beats the heck out of dial-up I had.. I live about

mine still testing pretty good on the 1000/192 plan..hughesNet..

I tried that but got message that "cannot be restored to that date, please try another."..and I went to one prior to that..same message..geesh..so noticed HughesNet Tool Box was missing so I wound up as last resort kind of re-installing HughesNet..Luckily, that worked. bottomline..don't leave 2 year TAZ un-attended in computer room with computer and internet up and running..LOL..

fwiw..my satelite system has been doing good (1000/192) plan..HughesNet.. anyways over the weekend my 2 year old grandson came in here, with internet on and must've played my keyboard like a piano..lol.. long story short.. stats on internet dropped to 192/15 speed..OMG!.. I did not un-install Hughes net, but I removed line from back of computer and I put set-up disc back in and followed directions, re-booted, and it basically, immediately came back up to snuff.. I noticed a section running on set-up program about OPTIMIZING windows settings...that it did..that probably corrected what grandson did.. just fyi..

mogramjo..just curious..what does speed like that test out on Cnet..it always been 'the standard' test site for me.. it will test dial-up up to T-3.. http://reviews.cnet.com/7004-7254_7-0.html my Hughes Net tests on Cnet is around 450~510, and TestMyNet shows 1083/160 or so..I am on the 1000/192 plan.. so, I am at least getting what I'm paying for.. I think maybe on Cnet perhaps they average the upload and download speeds together..and give you an allaround ballpark figure..don't know..kind of new to this stuff..just wondering..

Tommie..no..I got shafted on a job promotion, after filling in & doing the job for 5 months..my Supervisor got busted on a drug test..I took over for 5 months..then, out of the blue they promote much younger 'minority' guy..he had been with company 3 years, I had been there 9 years..I am 55, he is 28..so I told them to stick it where the sun don't shine.. I had been 'part-time' trading stocks for 7 years and since Febuary I stay at home, trading stocks..FULL TIME...on dial-up.. had a good GREEN year too..and no BS bosses to put up with, trafffic to fight, and my "work" hours are market hours.. 9:30 am to 4pm..but it's not like I stay glued to computer during those hours..I have my buys and sell set to sell automatically..and I just about do whatever I want to..best "job" I ever had..but it's something you can't learn overnight..and they for sure are not all winners..so you cut your loses Quick...there's plenty of other stocks out there..about 15000..and live to trade another day.. my real experienced buddy in NY is real quick and has been doing it longer than I have..here's a shot of some trades he did in 4 DAYS..can you imagine..sitting on a beach with a laptop watching the babes stroll by..making money like this.. Tommie..bellsouth accelerator had a 'slider' control.. the more acceleration, the more graphic image loss.. on maxium, image was there and you could tell what it was, but almost like a faded, black & white picture..washed out colors..nevertheless, it helped me alot.. with text, (trading stocks, etc..) it sure beat 26kbps and waiting waiting all day..lol..to see something in high definition.. Comcast cable on my office computer where I used to work tested only about 350Kbps..company had 43 computers (offices)..don't know if that made any difference or not.. I DO know on the week-ends when working my supv and me would check out some eye-popping internet sites during breaks and stuff..

TimPawlak..man, some great speed..click and your there, eh?..you on fiber optic or cable or something?.. after 8 years of dial-up, I'm happier than a pig in mud..

upload speed matter to me too..a lot..I upload small vids to Google and Photobucket..using my old Nikon 3200 CoolPix.. here's a Wichita KS takeoff..(refueling stop) on the way to Harrahs Reno this past July to do a little gambling..(donating to the building fund)..well, my Uncle with me did come away with $3k.. man, in KS, not a mountain no where..FLAT..not used to that as I live fairly close to the Smokie Mountains.. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7449821756354402274&hl=en

seems like everybody likes to check their speed..maybe a lot have lots of trouble..with satellite net it seems to kind of bog down easily..it's like you've got to keep your computer operating room clean..ALL THE TIME.. I will mention here that I have system Mechanic 6 professional from www.iolo.com I have it set to OPTIMIZE internet settings PC clean, etc, every hour..initially, when I first bought it at Walmart, it found hundreds of broken links, registry errors, all kinds of computer errors...I don't know all the lingo yet..i recommend program..keeps me running near what I'm paying for...that is the 1000/192 plan..it's drizzle rain here now and I'm actually shooting through some trees on the hill just behind my house..just thought I'd mention it..

I asked my computer tech guy about it, and he said it would be all kinds of jumping thru the hoops to remove it... something in computer I guess.. I had bellsouth internet for 8 years plus I used the bellsouth accelerator all the time.. with accelerator on, I would get about 150kps with very degraded graphics..but at least I wouldn't have to wait all day..

I pay for the 1000/192 plan..the 1000 download part is above 1000 some 99% of the tim..1073, 1086, 1069 etc... but 90% of the time my uploadpart is low..like 50 or 60 or even 45.. THIS TIME it tests 137...any ideas why upload speeds are kind of erratic..what it is I upload alot of stuff, family mini-movies, etc to Photobucket, etc and it takes a good while.. just wished my upload times were consistently say 150 at least..am I wishing for too much?.. I don't turn off any firewalls or anything..should I?.. what's the deal here?.. for maintenance, I do run occasionally iolo.com SystemMechanic6 proffessional which always seems to help.. yes..I agree..I personally thought it was Nashville until my 76 year old dad and the rest of the family, rode up and checked out "take me back to Renfro Valley" (KY)..a popular song back in the day.. there's a little bluegrass museum and show.. went up there a couple of years ago..nice little place! probably on the internet..
