  1. Very cool and congrats on the new server, hope it didnt break the bank, hehe.
  2. I realise Hughes is bursty but I have always gotten an accurate test from here aside form the last month, Ok, everything cleaned out so here we go, I am going to run each test 3 times and post the average here for each site. Speakeasy: 1494 down Hughes: 1202 down Pcpitstop: 1243 down Vonage: 1490 down Testmy: 643 down Actual transfer rate on a 7MB files was 238 KB/s I know that Java has nothing to do with the test results I am getting because almost if not all of these tests are Java based including hughes own test. At any rate there are the numbers, you can work on it from there if you want, maybe I am the only one and thas ok if I am, I only check my speed about once a week or so anyhow so no biggy. To share the good news I just talked to a guy that has set up a fixed wireless web around the town just north of me and is moving to the town closest to me next and his first tower is going to be about 3 miles from me which puts me in range and his top service will be 1024 up and down for $59.99 a month and the tower should be comisioned before Jan.01 so Hughes days are limited from the looks of things.
  3. I thought I posted this but I guess not, probably cause it was like 1am on that original post I think but anyhow my actual download speeds on files I download are still pointing to me getting 1.5meg's as well. I am always downloading in the 200 to 300 KBps range actual speed. That would be in line with my old speed tests actually, meaning I am still well above my plan speed of 1.5 MB/s during off peak times and running about on target or a little slow during peak times because it can get as low as 130 KB/s at those times. I am not knocking this site just reporting what I am seeing as this is my favorite site and has been for years as well as PcPitstop which also doesn't care what you want to hear, lol. I have tested with Hughes, Speakeasy, Vonage and PcPitstop and all but this one are reflecting what I am seeing when I download a file. This has just happened in like the last 2 weeks and I am fully aware of the congestion and reroute problems of ISP's and especially satt. I have been a satt. customer for 4 years and a vigilante troubleshooter for 2 years hehe. But I do appreciate the quick responce in pointing these things out. Just to make it more clear, when I tested before I used the largest test and when my speed was running overspeed in off peak hours the test would open on my screen at about 30% and run up smothly from there but now it still will open at around 30% but it downloads or at least shows to be downloading in chunks of 10 to 20% insted of increasing smoothly. I am going to clean everything out on my computer later today and try again but I doubt it aill make a difference as I don't get anything harmfull but maybe once a year if that. I will post my results from both this site and others after I have finished that.
  4. I can't seem to figure out why but when I run the download test it starts out downloading fine and the the proggression bar pauses and then gets jumpy till the test finishes and then I get a slower than true speed result. I say it isnt right because several other test's show my speed at just what it should be running and what the hughes test says it is running. Anyhow it isn't a big deal, I just thought I would sink a post here in case some dont realise it isnt right and yell because their system is running slow which I am sure it is but not that slow, hehe.
  5. I am on small buissness as well and AMC9 but a different transpnder and for about 2 weeks to a month Testmy's test has been off. When I test it starts out great but the starts getting the download in chunks of about 20% instead of smoothly testing. For me I know it is something on my computer or a problem with test my or my modem because actual download speeds are still running 100 to 200 Kbps down which isnt bad in my book. I don't know the formula to figure that up in advertised speeds but I think that would run about 1000 to 1700 down. My up speed is never changing at 270 to 280. I am thinking this was a modem update and it is screwing with the test sites but I cant prove it, is really just a suspicion. I should also note that speakeasy and PcPitstop measures my down speed clos to the same as hughes test does. It pretty much seems to be this sites test which is a shame because it has always been my favorite. At least it still accuratly tests my upload speed which is something alot of tests cant seem to do.
  6. Thas a possibility, I never thought of that but rest assured even if I am routed to a higher class of tech support they are mostly still in India, I have gotten US peeps once or twice though but I am sure it was a fluke more than common. And I hope for all of your sakes that wildblue did go all American.
  7. Oh you mean Wildblue got rid of thier indian tech support? Must have been after I canceled out cause I dealt with them till I was about to scream when I was on there. I guess I must be fortunate on the ticket side, in the year I had hughes before and the 6 months I have had it this time they have always been very timely on my calls but I know some have troubles with em.
  8. Ahh the new fap isnt as bad as people make it sound. You can still use a download manager and avoid it altogether and as long as you think ahead and subscribe to a plan that will cover most of your downloads it isn't a bad deal. I personally still like this fap compared to wildblue's myself and I love my pings. As for it being worth buying new equipment? Well that would be up to you I guess. It was for me but I am rather picky.
  9. I just read this in another string so I figured I might add it here. Go into interntet options, connections, lan settings and get rid of the proxy settings there and click automaticly detect proxy. I am not sure what you will have to do about firefox and if that will fix it or not. Also my pings stay under 750 aside from an occasional server sputter and thas jusy one ping in a string of 20.
  10. If it is like it is here, Almost every place around here is $40 to $60 bucks a month and speeds are usually 386 up and down with one exception in about a 50 square mile area around me and he runs the same price as others but his service is 512 up and down. I have seen some wisp's advertised in urban areas that ran as fast as 6Mb down and 3Mb up but I am guessing that is for very short range where they can use antenna's on buildings to get coverage because I have never found it on a rural wisp. Unfortunatly I am about 3 miles to far from the nearest antenna to get this service or I would have it.
  11. I ran a ping to testmy, it was 100 pings in length as you can see. I am not going to paste the whole string here unless someone really wants me too but I will post the results. Keep in mind this string was done in the rain and I was goin down my favorites list constantly loading 1 page after another during this entire run and also it was done right at the opening of peak times at 3 minutes till 7pm cdt. Ping statistics for 67.18.179.85: Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 100, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 660ms, Maximum = 1838ms, Average = 810ms All except for one page the pings would bounce up to just over 1000 for one or 2 pings during the initial search and load of each url, one page that I loaded which is always crowded (eqplayers) is the one that got the 1838 spike and had a total of 5 pings ranging from 915 to that 1838 all other pings were 750 or less.

Well yes I am on the SOHO plan because it was 50/50 in all the forums I belong to as to whether that would make a difference so I figured if I was going to go all out for the bigger dish and 2 watt radio then I might as well get the best plan I could afford and hope it was worth it. Of course satt. is never worth it but you get the idea, lol. here is my speed right now with 4 computers on the net atm. :::.. You will find my pastes elsewhere on this boar and see it is normally 2.5 during off peak times and 1.6 to 2.0 during peak times and my pings are never worse than these aside form an occasional rogue reply.
  15. Hmmm, I did have to wait a couple of days for them to reply with my username and password for downloads, I sent them an email and within a few hours I had gotten my email. I didn't know anyone else had had trouble there, it is well worth the money but maybe not if they are not giving you access. there are alot of installers and troubleshooters in thier forums so once you are in it is great. Just have to wiegh the risk for yourself I guess.
  16. I used satspeed, here is a link to where I got it but you have to subscribe to this sight to get it, if you don't want to or dont already have a subscription then try googling it and see if you can get it elsewhere, it worked fine for me, not sure about your vista though. Running XP pro myself. http://www.copperhead.cc/satspeed.htm I hope you can download it and it works for you, like I said, I dont have any idea why exactly it works with a self hosted system but it made a big difference for me. I just set jmy plan and whatever it asked for and then clicked the DW7000 modem button on the screen and it auto set everything for me and that was it. Good luck.
  17. Well Maybe that is an assumption but it is based on fact. I was on wildblue when it was shiny and brand new and the pings were just fine being around the same as my hughesnet system is now. I know the formula for sattelite ping times vs distance and I also know that a transponders traffic can and most definatly will slow ping times but what I was getting at is that for one if you research on thier forums you will find that for one even though the peak time pings were not really any good they were usable and off prime time pings were pretty decent back in July and a couple of months there after and then if you go forward in time on those forums you will find that wildblue did an update and everybody's ping time went in the toilet all at once on that bery same day and never improved thereafter. And I was making the point that this person was "supposedly" on the new satt which would make him one of the first and that his/her ping times were no better than the ones on the oversold service. I appoligise if this offended some but I am just stating facts that I have been part of and I did say this guy was suppose to be on the new satt. I never said I knew he was. If you cant find the facts to support all I have said here then look at the wilblue.cc forums and you will find all you need.
  18. here is what I get most of the time since I used an optimizer. this is about 30% better than before I used it and I have tested for weeks both before and after donloading the optimizer so I know there is a difference, why I don't know. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Download Connection is:: 2458 Kbps about 2.5 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 300 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (Server 1) Test Time:: 2007/03/26 - 11:09pm Bottom Line:: 43X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 3.41 sec Tested from a 2992 kB file and took 9.969 seconds to complete Download Diagnosis:: Awesome! 20% + : 133.65 % faster than the average for host (direcpc.com) D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-QN1K47JMW User Agent:: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.30) [!] And the Upload: :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Upload Connection is:: 278 Kbps about 0.3 Mbps (tested with 579 kB) Upload Speed is:: 34 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (Server 1) Test Time:: 2007/03/26 - 11:11pm Bottom Line:: 5X faster than 56K 1MB Upload in 30.12 sec Tested from a 579 kB file and took 17.063 seconds to complete Upload Diagnosis:: Awesome! 20% + : 162.26 % faster than the average for host (direcpc.com) U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-GU9X7FYOP User Agent:: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.30) [!] Now the uplaod speed run at about 200 before so not that much improvement there, during prime time speeds will fall to about 1.6 to 1.8 down and about 220 or so give or take upload. Also I don't have it in my sig. ATM but I am on the small buissness package for 99 bucks a month and speeds are suppose to be 1.5 down and 300 up.
  19. I just read somewhere, I think it was in the wildblue forums on here that someone was on the new wildblue sat and there pings are running the same as everyone elses. Correct me if I am wrong but that would mean that all the suspicion is true and that wildblue is throttling the ping times. How do they ever expect to hold customers like that. I am sure the original thought was that it would affect only gamers but when they first came out they advertized the ability to run VOIP which is affected by ping times as well as loading secure websites which almost anyone on wildblue can tell you is almost impossible on their system. Glad I have jumped ship, now if this contract will just run out so I can call and hand them a piece of my mind, lol.
  20. Aye, I am on hughesnet now and just letting my wildblue contract run down till I can just cancel the service. I had to use the wildblue service for a few days last week because I had to have my hughesnet dish remounted and let me tell you, the difference was night and day, wildblue will never compete at the rate they are going. My pings on hughesnet almost never exeed 750 and never exeed 800 for any reason and as a contrast my wildblue pings never do better than 1200 and seldom better than 2000. Also even with the HN7000S modem my speeds are usually above my service level and never more than 20% slower than my service level so that proves it can be done, wildblue just doesnt care about anything but the money, that has to be it. When you switch services, if I were you and if you are going to hughesnet I would do my best to spend the extra cash and get the power pack to get the bigger dish and the 2 watt transmitter. I have had both the normal residential system back when it was direcway and now the bigger system and this dish puts the smaller one to shame when it comes to wind and weather interferance. Also some claim that it won't make any difference on spped and pings but the trouble shooter guy I had out the other day said that it really doesnt make any difference on speed but that if you do your homework you will see that it does make a difference on pings. Just remember that if you do switch to hughesnet that you will still get rotten service with peeps reading from a script, is best to establish a relationship with a good installer if possible. Also I want to add that if you do get the power pack, find the spot on hughesnet.com that tells what is included with the power pack setup because if you are like me the installer will try to charge you for a pole mount and pole mounts are included with the power pack. That way you can show him when he arrives to do the install, from what I was told the installers or alot of them dont even know that is suppose to be included at no extra charge.
  21. There I added A sig and filled out a bit of other stuff, I will add more laters.
  22. Ty, I have been using this speed test forever and figured I might could help someone along the way if I joined the forums so I decided to give it a shot.
  23. Wildblue's new satt is up but they say it won't go online officially till june according to several dealers and even when it does you will have to specificly ask to be moved to one of the new beams and it will cost you a service call so it will take till closer to the end of the year for current users to see any real change. I just dumped wildblue and invested in a hughesnet small buissness system and package with the .98 dish and 2 watt transmitter. I also have the HN7000S modem so I will run and post some pings for those that were interested. Keep in mind it is overcast skies here and spitting snow and there is a light crust of snow on the dish. Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] © Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.
