"According to the FAQ, if you are using MCE you need to have "Update Rollup 2" installed. Whether or not that's the same as SP2, I don't know, since I don't use MCE.
"Installing the Player on Windows XP Media Center EditionThis release of the Player supports Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 Update Rollup 2; however, it does not support previous releases of Windows XP Media Center Edition.
If you have Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, but have not installed Update Rollup 2, you must go to Windows Update and install Update Rollup 2 before you can install Windows Media Player 11.
Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP cannot be installed on computers running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002 or Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004."

I remember the dos shell too. I had a packard bell too. It had a super fast 2400baud modem. xD This was with "Prodigy Classic.

Oh, and you had to "park" the HDD before turning of the computer

On a related idea I think it would be cool if we had some sort of database with everyone's computer specs, so we could see what the "avarage" is.
-
Is it still common for laptops to have 5400RPM HDD's? Seems to me that we should be past that now.

Cholla, I found it in Charmap.

I'm bored right now, so I'm playing around with some online Sign generators.

Welcome to the forums, jstein. Try reading the two posts in my sig for some help. Have you installed any new software or hardware right around when you noticed the speed drop?

...
I just have IE6 in it there is a setting in Internet Options/advanced under multimedia to "turn off sound in web pages" .That would probably work but not what you would want.
That's different. That stops sounds/music that is embedded in web pages from playing.

Nvidia does too. Not all onboard cards have them, which is not supprising.

You could check each computer's nic and make sure that they're not set to 10/100 Auto (detect). Some router/nic combo's don't seem to work well with the auto detection.

send him here.. if he has questions we will answer them..
I second that. Besides, we're free. You have to pay for books.

I know there is no modem, but can the ONT, the FIOS "modem" be rebooted? That's what I meant to say. Sorry I didn't make it clearer.
-
-
I don't exactly know how it works on FIOS, but I have cable and you have to reset the modem if you are changing the device that is connected directly to your service. The modem can tell when your mac address changes, and requires a new IP for each MAC. Is there a way to "reset: your connection, possibly? You may just have to "activate" the router's mac address.

I found an article about it here. Burn-in on an LCD is called Image persistence. It doesn't seem, from reading the article that it happens often.

Maximum transmission unit (Wikipedia)
. A higher MTU brings higher bandwidth efficiency. However large packets can block up a slow interface for some time' date=' increasing the lag on other packets. For example a 1500 byte packet, the largest allowed by Ethernet (and hence most of the Internet), would block up a 14.4k modem for about one second.[/quote']Basicly if the MTU was set any higher than that, a 14.Kb modem would pause for a few seconds as it can only handle upto 14.4 Kb/s. You have to have the packets small enough for the slowest link.
Also, I found this. Why An MTU Of !500 For Ethernet Networks (SECOND RESPONSE) I don't go there, I just Yahoo!'ed it.
It seems there is still a lot of old hardware still out there. So until enough of it get's upgrated, 1500 will have to do.

xD I love that video. Truthfully though, that's how I felt about the SNES.

If it's just a couple of sites and you know the url's, then you could block the sites via the hosts file. In XP %windir%system32driversetchosts
Ex:
127.0.0.1 ads1.msn.comsince 127.0.0.1 points to nowhere the site wouldn't work.

I had a feeling that's what you meant. Interesting solution never the less.

ATX is a motherboard formfactor stanmdard.. All mfrs.design their motherboards around a set of rules. Such as what part of the mobo the CPU goes in or where the mouse/keyboard connectors are on the back of the computer.
There are a few different sizes, like micro ATX and standard ATX.

if you are intrested in the fancy lights there are good manufactures that make their power supplies with the colorful lights
ATX is a standard for motherboard size and case size.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATX
I have that exact one, the 500W. I've only had it for a couple of months, but haz had no problems with it at all. A power supply is one part of your computer where you don't want to go cheap.

Best Way to transfer from Slave drive to slave drive?
in General Help
Posted
I'm not 100% sure what you mean. Are you trying to transfer one whole drive to another?
Each IDE or SATA controller (primary secondary) can only have one master and one slave per controller.
