  2. Strange... why would he bother if you did (you probably don't need to ask) and why do we all need to know (you could have messeged him).
  3. Metro or not, I live in metro (Sydney) too, but I can get a max of 1.6 MB/s, I live about 1.7 KM from the exchange. You need to know how far away you are from the exchange, I'm guessing about 2 KM. I'm assuming it's the fastest speed you're going to archive, which really isn't that bad! And for that test link I gave you, it was for your upload speed, not download. What were the results? Should have been about 100 KB/s. Cheers, Shane
  4. Where are you from? And which ISP are you with? If it's ADSL it depends on how far you are from the exchange you're connected to and the quality of your line. Your ISP should be advertising it as "UP TO 24 Mbps", did you have a closer look? It's unlikley you will be able to get 24 Mbps, even 20 Mbps is hard, unless you live like < 500 meters away from the exchange. Do you know your attenuation and line noise stats? Make sure you have filters on all other devices using the same line as your ADSL, first try dissconnecting all other devices from the line and seeing if it improves your speeds. But what you're getting now is an above average speed regardless, it's decent. Although your upload should be maxing out at ~ 850 Kbps, which is about 105 KB/s. If you are in Australia (because you're calling it ADSL and we have 24/1 plans here, I'm guessing you may be...) try running the upload test to this mirror: http://www.testmy.net/ou-mirror-ShaneAu2 Cheers, Shane
  5. Hello fellow Aussies, There's now a Australian mirror for testmy.net! Excellent for those higher speed connections (above 1.5 Mbps - I'm talking 10 Mbps+) that want a more accurate results. http://www.testmy.net/o-mirror-ShaneAu2 Post results here. This is from my Bigpond Cable Standard connection, Sydney, NSW: :::.. 6. That is 4.2 Mb/s (MegaBITS), I said I get 1.19 MB/s (MegaBYTES) that is 9.52 Mbps. Besides your result looks soo tampered with . Where's your validation link?
  7. Wow nice... I pay $45 USD per month, and get 10 Mbps down and only 128 kbps up (big difference, hey!), and a 10 GB download cap per month, after the 10 GB the line is slown down to 64 Kbps!
  8. Here's my best: USA: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 7962 Kbps about 8 Mbps (tested with 20972 kB) Download Speed is:: 972 kB/s Tested From:: http://matrixau.net Test Time:: Bottom Line:: 142X faster than 56K 1MB download in 1.05 sec Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 467.09 % faster than the average for host (net.au) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-NZI6HMEVX And done from a local mirror in Sydney, Australia: Test run on 22/5/2005 @ 10:33 P.M. 9. We can get servers in America with 2 TB bandwidth for just like $230 per month (which I do get), if I was to get one here in Aus it would be about $1000 and with about 80 GB if I'm lucky. . And hell no I'm not moving, Australia's great! I can live with expensive bandwidth. Just showing the comparision.
  10. It pisses me off seeing you Americans saying USA bandwidth is expensive. Here, yes, I have 10 Mbps cable (Download) and only 128 Kbps (Upload) but my speed is slown down to 64 Kbps down and up once I hit 10 GB (10 GB quota per month), I pay $47 USD per month for that, that's considerd rather cheap here compared to our DSL services. I could go on a 20 GB per month plan where instead of being slown down after 20 GB, they charge me per the megabyte, this is where you will see how expensive bandwidth is in Australia, it's 12 cents per MEGABYTE over the 20 GB monthly quota. The 20 GB plan costs $78 USD per month (just for the 20 GB). If I were to go over that by 10 GB I'd be paying $1228.80 USD EXTRA! That would mean my bill for using 30 GB would be $1306.80. And yes, 20 GB is the highest plan available. Now stop your bitching, USA bandwidth is dirt cheap, be thankful! . Note: I converted all the currencys into USD so you people in America can know what I'm going on about.
  11. .net.au, we don't have fiber to the home just yet . (In Australia).
  12. lol. Do the test again.. lucky you .
  13. It's because usually at the start of a download your speed doesn't max out, but the speed test starts counting regardless. If you download DU Meter and monitor that, you will see your true speed, just make sure you're not doing anything within an LAN at the time of the test because DU Meter monitors both LAN and WAN traffic.
  14. Oh! haha . Thought it made you sound a tad dumb .
  15. We say the 11th of April 2005 here in Australia. I think you say April the 11th, 2005. Hence 11/4/2005 . I just ran the test again: Test run on 12/4/2005 @ 1:34 A.M. Mirror: Optus Test type: Cable Your connection speed: kbps: 8909.6 KB/s: 1113.7 Mbps: 8.70078125
  16. Lol. Something went wrong there . Max speed is 10 Mbps on Bigpond Cable.
  17. Totally wireless? Or just a wireless router using a wired internet connection?
  18. Oh yeah I should comment on the speed also. haha. Good speed for wireless .
  19. Page created in 0.159 seconds with 27 queries. It's better now . Seems fine.
  20. 2 Mb! . There's a differance, Watch how you write it . MB is MegaBytes, Mb is Megabits. . 2 M(Bytes) wireless would be lovley.. .
  21. Very good . Seems faster now, but not sure if it seems faster then it's ever been. . When all settles down I'll say . Update: Page created in 5.23 seconds with 22 queries. . Still doing work I suppose?
  22. It's very real . In fact my connection goes faster. That's from an international mirror. Give me a local mirror and watch the speed! . Test run on 11/4/2005 @ 8:19 P.M. Mirror: Optus Test type: Cable Your connection speed: Kbps: 8789.3 KB/s: 1098.6625 Mbps: 8.58330078125 From http://members.optusnet.com.au/djalexm/speedtest/tools_speed.shtml using the Optus mirror in Sydney. Update: Btw, it seems the record is working now, the database was being transfered from the old server to a new server.
