Hi I have had one of the Western Digital MyBook Home Editions I think it is for about 1 year now. I woke up this morning and the hard drive cannot be found on the system and the light is just blinking. Is there anyway to recover data? specifically .ogm and .mkv format videos. I believe I was looking for a place to take a speed test once I got cable internet, Then walla this was on the list when I searched for one.Also I must say this is the most helpful community computer based site I ever been too.

Norton internet security 2003 was blocking the internet access, I just used the Norton removal tool and now it works fine. Still thank you mudmanc4 for the help.

Alright on one of the computers here there was a conflict I guess between 2 anti virus's and it kept making the computer lock, So now those are removed and the internet connections says its well connected. Thing is when you try to go on the internet all sites cannot be found due to no response and MSN wont connect. I thought at first maybe the TCP/IP stack became corrupted so I went online on another computer and got the DOS commands to reset it, It really never gave a conformation it did so but I was just assuming, Does anyone have a idea why it says its connected but wont for the life of it let who uses browse the net?. I have many comic based things and with CDisplay comic reader I just find it easier reading like that.

I am not sure if this is possible but I have like 200+ folders that I want to .rar but not into one big one. Is there anyway to .rar many single folders into each there own .rar at once.

I eneded up finding the problem it was a .dll of somesort had a odd name ljghfed or something, Thanks to all who gave a reply. trivium03<--- AVG did the trick for me in this case.

I must say I did tinker with it a bit again I Installed AVG Anti virus so it did change the log a bit due to the new modules being installed all post a updated log tomorrow.

Alright here is the story 2 days ago my brother downloaded something our other, it was a .bat file of some sort. FOLKS! i figured it out, it was my fault i had 2 wires switched wrong.

192.168.0.1-15 When i hook the other Ethernets that don't like the switch, into the switch it only give a non usable private address also at most it would be 6 things running at once so there definitely space in the range area.

Alright i went through the steps and for some reason some of the wires only work in the router, once i hook them tot he switch it will not hand out a workable ip address. Anyone know a reason for this?

Funny thing is when the Ethernet was connected to the switch it would not send a address. So i put the Ethernet in the router and replaced one form the router to the switch now it works fine. Thank you as well mudmanc4 i appreciate it.

Alright i got a new switch today a Netgear GS605. I hooked in my Xboxs Ethernet booted it up showed a IP (It's Modded) works fine, Hooked my Ethernet to the switch went online also works perfect. Went to WAL MART bought a 50 foot Cat 5E Ethernet cable hooked into her computer and the switch and it cannot for the life of it acquire a IP address from the router through the switch which is doing th DHCP thing. Well thats the problem um if more specific information is needed i can get it just I am not to good with words =p

How does it connect exactly a switch that is. Should i put the Ethernet from the Cable modem to the switch then connect a Router to the Switch?.Or is it Vice Versa, Anyone have a Diagram =p lol.

i shall ask another question just to make absolutely sure. when i buy one all i do is put a Ethernet from the router to the switch and from there i can just plug in the other Ethernet pieces i needed in the switch. im not to great with words =p

Alright i have a 4 port router but i need like 4 more ports, was i just dreaming or is there something i can buy to increase the number of ports. I always thought a switch would do that but i may be way off. Any help is appreciated.
