  1. USB or PS2? And rebooting after plugging in the working devices?

Power down by holding in the power button for 7 seconds for those that don't know what to do when the system really locks up and nothing works.

I know I'm being too simple here and you've probably tried this already.  :?

But then again, people do put keyboards in the dishwasher to get rid of the chip remnants. And the mean ones pop out the keys and rearrange them for the visual typer's.

  2. My ISP being DSL, they have a problem with the default settings for the upload speed, when they move a client to a faster speed tier. Someone has to go in and change the profile of the upload speed.

Or sometimes the customers card in the DSL node has gone bad and needs to be changed out.

Has this been happening for long? Or is it just in the short while.

  3. Is the 2wire test for you, coming from the States or from Asia? Seems to give an accurate result for me and it is apparently coming from Atlanta area for me.

If they have many business customers on the same line area. A timed throttle would be a slow down at a certain time(8 to 12 hours) each and every day.

  4. So here is, supposedly, the Google OS user agent if you want to screw with some sites admins.

    Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.6) Gecko/2009020911 Google OS/ChromeKernel 0.9 (very secret, to be released soon.) Firefox/3.0.6

And hopefully Google won't put any monitoring ware in the OS.  I really hate it when a non-internet program in the OS wants to call home.

  5. Must be the specs of your laptop. But you should be able to run XP, If it will run bloated Vista. I think Microsoft has a tool to see if your system can support what level of Vista.

The upgrade adviser download says it can install in XP and Vista, but the download link only says XP. There is also a link on the download page to see if your system qualifies for Windows 7.

Windows 7 on Oct 22.  It is almost like XP to me.

  6. Using encryption does help some people. Helps to hide a little bit from the DPI, but some ISP's do throttle encryption, since the user must be up to no good to actually think of keeping their Internet communications private from the prying eyes of the ISP Government.  :lipsrsealed:

EDIT: And hows your hard drive? Can it keep up with the multiple torrents?

  7. O you missed the best part of the sale.

Insider Trading Suspected Ahead of Pirate Bay Sale

Securities regulators are investigating potential insider trading of Global Gaming Factory before it announced its planned purchase of The Pirate Bay for $7.7 million, exchange AktieTorget told Swedish media.

AktieTorget, a Swedish exchange listing some 116 public companies, suspended trading in Global Gaming a week before the announcement as trading volume and share prices jumped without public news to account for it.

  8. but unfortunately i have only pci slots, i have an agp slot, but for some reason its been disabled by the manufacturer and i dont know how to enable it or if its possible to enable it, so i dont know the reasoning for even putting it on the mother board if its not useable.

You should be able to enable AGP in the BIOS. I've got a Trash Compaq and it automatically recognized the AGP card. Now the kids Vista machine, I had to go into the BIOS to enable the PCI Express card.

Computer shops should have used AGP cards for 10 bucks.

  9. So far FireFox is a bit snappier. And most all my Add-Ons, except one, have updated to work with it.

The only change the new version made to my customized settings is it changed to "open new windows on external links". I have the browser to not open any new windows(re-use same window), as I just right click if I want to keep the original page. So I fixed it in about:config .

    browser.link.open-newwindow

    browser.link.open-external

    settings are.....

Put in number 1 or 2 or 3 for link opens in.....

    1:current

    2:new window

    3:Tab

Mozilla Confirms Tuesday Release for Firefox 3.5

    06.29.09

    by Chloe Albanesius

Mozilla is scheduled to release Firefox 3.5 on Tuesday morning.

"The Mozilla team is mobilizing to ship Firefox 3.5 and it's looking like Tuesday morning," a Mozilla spokeswoman said in an e-mail.

Tuesday's unveiling will come after three Firefox 3.5 release candidates in three weeks.

The first RC was made available in mid-June to about 800,000 beta users. The June 22 RC2 then incorporated feedback from the RC1 beta users, as did the final June 25 RC3.

Firefox 3.5 will include a private browsing mode that hides browser activity, a sped-up JavaScript engine known as TraceMonkey, new location services, and support for several emerging HTML 5 features.

HTML 5 support will allow the browser to natively play video encoded in the open source Ogg Theora format and Ogg Vorbis audio, which provides for manipulation and editing of video without the use of an external program.

Firefox 3.0 made its debut in June 2008, and heavy demand for the updated browser prompted Mozilla to delay its release for several hours. When it finally went live, the company reported an estimated 14,000 downloads per minute, and a total of 8 million downloads in 24 hours.

Firefox is now used by 300 million people, up from 175 million last year, Mike Beltzner, Mozilla's director of Firefox, told PCMag.com last week. Global market share is now at 22 percent, and in some countries that number is closing in on 50 percent, he said.

Beltzner said he expects the cumulative number of Firefox downloads from its Web site to surpass 1 billion shortly after Firefox 3.5 ships.

And MozBackup to help backup your settings, Bookmarks, etc.

  11. Are there any Splitters on the cable Internet line? Or a bad connector that is partly shorting across the wires. Or maybe no ground on the incoming wire connection in the cable box on the side of the house(static buildup).

Disconnect the TV and see if the loss of signal fixes itself.

  12. Internet Xploder and FireFox both show the same numbers for me.

If you are a tweaker of FireFox Maybe you have an error in  about:config  ?

Or better yet. What is your Internet plan published 'upload' and 'download' specifications?

  13. yeah i actually stumbled on those on cnet last night after posting this and it worked...im not afraid of killing firefox, whats the worst that could happen, ill have to re install firefox? oh well. but yeah, those actually do work. thanks.

I think it could corrupt or delete your profile, where all the bookmarks are stored. You never know with Ad-Ons, what they can do with the browser being tweaked to a different version.

There is MozBackup to save your FireFox profile. It's great when you have different machines, so you can just backup a profile and then install that profile onto another machine.
