  1. hmmm I will get some more expensive cat 5 later and try that...but shouldn't that also affect my download speeds? As I found out it's not actually my speeds that are lower on my wired pc's it is just how testmy.net displays them with wired.
  2. I just tried to use a bandwith monitor (NetPerSec) and when I upload some files onto my site then I upload at around 215k or so...which is normal for my connection...any idea why my wired pc's test slower on the upload portion?
  3. I am having a problem with my uploads...on both of my wired PC's (one has SP1 the other has SP2 I thought this may have been an issue so I uninstalled SP2 from one pc) before and after installing SP2 on both machines my upload speeds would test around :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Connection is: 188 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 579 KB) Upload Speed is: 23 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line: 3 times faster than 56K you can upload 1MB in 44.52 second(s) Validation Link :: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=P5GY91KBR I am supposed to be on 1500/256 however on my laptop (wireless PCMCIA card) I get these speeds for my upload :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Connection is: 213 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 579 KB) Upload Speed is: 26 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line: 4 times faster than 56K you can upload 1MB in 39.38 second(s) Validation Link :: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=FIWSM9WA8 I test the same for the download speeds and I am curious as to why my wireless PC test faster than my wired for upload speeds...I am using a westell 6100 PPPoE connected to a Linksys 802.11b router...mabey someone knows something I don't...thanks for the help
  4. I tried a wireless company here once. I would have kept them but the speed was very high even compared to satellite and my DSL. I usally tested around 1750/420, also I had some trees that grew in the path of the LOS for the wireless and I just decided to drop wrireless (at $120 a month) for DSL 1300/210 (at $45 a month). Oddly enough my pings are higher with DSL as well...
  5. hmmm that is odd..you should have told the guy "then why can I download I-Tunes if I can't use it on my PC...after all it says it works on PC's too on the website" but that was funny yet mean...I feel his pain I work in a call center too
  6. if you can get a NID filter installed then that is the best way to go. I have one installed although the phone company installed it for me (how nice of them) but if you have one at the telephone box outside then you don't have to use all of those filters inside. Also I'm not sure about having a lot of devices being hooked up would effect it. I know I have 3 directtv recievers and 12 phones connected and my speeds are fine.
  7. or as bad as mine...lol :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Connection is: 187 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 579 KB) Upload Speed is: 23 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line: 3 times faster than 56K you can upload 1MB in 44.52 second(s) Validation Link :: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=LBDUO6XH3
  8. also while running NetPerSec I get around 1.4/210 while doing a large upload or download and on my downloads I average around 170 KB/sec or above so all seems good before I wouldn't even notice on my downloads I just knew it was faster...lol
  9. you are going to make fun of me....lol but it's nothing compared to satellite $45 and I'm in a 1 year contract but that's ok because CenturyTel doesn't lease their lines to other ISPs and there is no way in hell I could ever get a cable line out here or go back to satellite
  10. I know I know...I JUST got DSL though (I'm out in the middle of nowhere) so I will take anything that the crappy 850/25 satellite connection I was on...there is supposed to be a near tier released soon a few of my friends are testing it...3000/512...that's more like it I was mainly concerned about my upload but if all seems good then I am happy!
  11. I have a 1500/256 DSL connection with CenturyTel it's PPPoE I think my upload seems a little low and mabey I could tweak my download a little as well on my modem I am synced the full 1536/256 and I have very little to no line noise :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 1310 Kbps about 1.3 Mbps (tested with 2992 KB) Download Speed is:: 160 KB/s Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/ Bottom Line:: 23 times faster than 56K you can download 1MB in 6.4 second(s) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/cgi-bin/get.cgi?Test_ID=P6FV6MOPE :::..
