  1. Thats a nasty spot to get bit--keeps your pants on.
  2. :evil:Black flies come out in spring, tiny little flies( like black knats) die off around now though when it starts getting hot. they have a nasty bite which you cant feel at first but they itch like hell afterwards-- any sports fisherman in northern states--great lakes area would know exactly what these fellows are all about.
  3. Yes I have found this test site works most accurate You folks like mosquitoes and black flies,???? we have lots to go around!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. :angel:Thanks for the web site for xplornet speed test. I checked it out and its actually same as test.my and another one which is recommended for sattelite--speakeasy.net I am on the elite plan which says up to 2mbs download and 300kps upload--I am constantly hitting these numbers bang on --day in day out any time of day. The xplornet site came back at 2044kps and 275 kps upload speakeasy came back at 2035kps and 345kps upload testmy came back at 1989kps and 245 upload. All in all pretty close.
  5. 20 mps for 60 bucks---In a millisecond-- I know sattellite is expensive anyway, but when I hear what people pay for great speeds It just gets me more upset. I pay 149.00 per month for 2mps and 300kps with a 3 year contact (xplornet--hughesnet) Top speed is 5mps--300 for around 300.00 smackers on a 3 year. Forget voice over--they say skype should work--NOT!! I ordered magicjack--great idea--39.95 (includes jack and unlimited calling for a year) -- then the following year, its only 20.00 a year after that (licence fee)--free local and long distance US and Canada unlimited. 20.00 bucks for a year!!! Plug jack into USB and regular phone jack into other end--away you go Unbelievable, I could get rid of Bell for good. It works, but alas not for us poor unloved sattellite internet people. Gave it to my son who only has a cell phone--should save him a wack on long distance and local air time. Only draw back is no 911 identifying.
  6. back up and running now, thanks for the tips---I will definetly watch. Speeds back up to 2mps download--were my cap is
  7. I am now 22 hours into a 24 hour fap. My son swears he was just watching you tube nothing more---128 mb used in one hour and the next between 7-8pm 450mb Checking my usage on Huges Net to find this out. I have a threshhold of 500mb download per 24 hours--can just streaming some vids do this?? That seems like alot to use in one hour. Is there any way to find out what did this, I have never had that much used in 1 hour.
  8. I know someone had mentioned wild blue or hughes net. I live in a rural area of central Ontario and had Hughesnet installed last August. It works well after some intial glitches, but with the prices your paying--you should consider changing over. I am on a 2mb down and 300kps up package for 200.00 a month with 3 years contract. Speeds are constant nite and day, and so far weather has not affected service. I too have had some problems with my home phone service which made the already painfull dialup, almost unbearable,we are in a similar area too you --(cottage country?? lots of hunting and fishing) The KA band satellite service seems to be best. Just a thought.
  9. :smiley:I am on Hughes net spaceway and after some initial hicups---things are working fine. I am getting constant speeds any time of day and night. Not cheap by any means but ---you get what you pay for. I am on the Elite package--steady 2mb down and around 285--330 upload. We have had some nasty weather here in central Ontario and it hasnt really caused a problem with the KA band so far. Good Luck!!
  10. Yes its 300mps on its own for upload 500 on its own for download--didnt think about whether they combine the totals, does not appear so-- files for each are separate on hughes log,but I am going to ask. I am not a big user by any means, and the folks at xplornet said they could see that, just happened. I usually use around 45-65 mps in a day, biggest part I think from updating laptop for work from mainframe at Sysco. Folks at xplornet are actually some of the best people to deal with as far as dealing one on one with actual persons. Good NewBrunswick east coasters!!
  11. [glow=red,2,300][/glow] Just got FAPed for the first time. Not fun--son downloading some tunes on limewire in middle of night. Checked hughesnet stats--download was really not bad for total around 50 mbs . It was the upload from other computers accessing files. I am only alowed 300mbs daily on upload 500 download-with Elite Package--went over and Hughes slowed me down to dialup speed. Found out we can close off access when doing this next time. Thanks Hughes--had to mention the fact that my internet was down for two weeks because of their faulty equipment that needed to be replaced--small blessing their supposed to give me a credit. Wont hold my breath. Must be the satellite stuff only, Sons on cable and can do tons more and does not get FAPed. This sound normal??
  12. Thanks guys, I would say your right Tommy--I should be happy with what I am getting --I am learning fast about this internet--put it this way, I had dialup for years before this. For Zalternate---yes I am using testmy.net for the speeds from before the change and after. I would says these guys left me on Elite Premium ---they bumped it up from elite plus just for test purposes when doing a diagnostic-- and were supposed to have changed it back ( thats what one contact said). Elite premium is new---5mp and 500 up? and I believe it is around 500.00 per month. My son is down from Ottawa where he has Rodgers Cable and says he did not see any difference from before I changed it to now, and browsing speed is not much different. Pages just load a little slower, but we have 46000 miles of space to traverse up and down!!!! I have some photos I plan on uploading to some friends in the next few weeks, this will be my chance to see how uploading really works with this system.
  13. I live in an area of central ontario where broadband is still not the best--many pockets and gaps for dsl and fixed wireless. The only option I had was satellite internet thru xplornet. I chose the best one available which is spaceway (hughesnet)I realize that it is expensive and you pay much more for this service to get a half decent speed. After several months of frustration about slow speeds, I found out that they were in transition from Germantown Penn. to Winnipeg Man. and once this had been done--my speeds increased dramatically for download and only slightly for upload. I went to the eliteplus package which advertized up to 3 mps down and 300kps up with a 3 year contract that price is 200.00 per month. The speeds I got once it was in Winnipeg were around 4.8mps to as high as 7mpsand around 380kps---to 550 up--I am happy with that--was like I was on the new elite premium package--mega bucks!! I just could not justify paying 200.00 per month--and with these good speeds now I thought I would drop it down a notch to the elite plan--2mps down and 250kps up---well not so fast (no pun intended) The speeds dropped in not the same favourable way as they went up,, 1.7mps down and 120kps up-- I am paying 80.00 a month less--but what a drop!!! Does this sound right???? I have not really noticed much or any change in my browsing speed, and I dont download much in the way of music ext. maybe I shouldnt complain or should I???
  14. I got my first internet connection last August with xplornet--spaceway--took awhile and alot of calls but have a very decent average download speed of around 4100 kps and as high as 6500kps.I am on eliteplus--very expensive but my company pays half--the only thing is my upload did not increase properly at same time as upgrade. I have spoken to level 2 and 3 at xplornet several times and they seem to think it may be a hardware issue. My average upload speed is around 150kps---usually never higher than 175kps.Technician was out 3 weeks ago--checked satellite alighnment and changed transmitter--better signal strength but still upload is not increasing. Any ideas??--could it be the modem--I have a Hughesnet 9000 Thanks,Banjoboy ps--speeds shown on two different test sites---speedtest.net---download--4100 to 6500kps upload 150-175kps testmy.net--not as random on download--but slower--2500-2900kps upload -225-254 kps hughesnet test site does not seem to be working.
